Tampa Bay Lightning will be visiting the Calgary Flames tonight. Read for a capper's explanation of why the Lightning will stop their losing streak and what solid trend backs this claim.

Tampa Bay Lightning vs Calgary Flames

We figure that you'll get the best out of both the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Calgary Flames tonight considering how long both have rested. Neither team has played since Saturday which bodes well for the Lightning as they've had plenty of time to settle into Calgary. This is a key element of wagering when trying to find a solid underdog. Obviously, a team that has only a day to acclimated to a road game is less likely to be a betting option that one who has had four days. To further the point, Tampa is 36-17 in their last 53 games when receiving three days rest or more.

This is a good spot for Tampa as they will be fired up to avenge a horrible effort against the Pittsburgh Penguins, a 6-2 loss, while the Flames could be in for a letdown after their huge victory over the Winnipeg Jets. A match-up against the Lightning can hardly garner the same intensity that an in-conference/country game does.

I'm a big fan of Calgary Flames Head Coach Glen Gulutzan but after winning six straight this looks like a place where his young team could drop a game to a veteran Lightning squad.

There has been some talk that Jon Cooper's job has been in question, which is ridiculous, but I would think when there are at least whispers of a head coach's job being in jeopardy, you can bet a big effort. The Lightning have had very little practice time of late but this four-day stretch should have given them a chance to work a few kinks out heading into tonight's game.

Tampa Bay has beaten the Flames ten of their last 14 games while holding a 6-2 record in Calgary over their last eight meetings.

The Lightning is finally back to 100% defensively. Victor Hedman now has four goals in the last five games and Anton Stralman will be playing in his sixth game. Stralman has never been much of an offensive threat but he certainly hasn't played up to his potential since returning December 1st. For my NHL pick, I expect his game to move to another level right around now.

I'm counting on the Lightning to view this road trip as one their must win at least two of the three against the Flames, Vancouver, and Edmonton. In order to do that this is a must win for Tampa.
