Champion handicapper Dana Lane explains why we shouldn't be jumping on the 'under' just because the Wings have injuries and the Bruins stars have underachieved.

Last night the Toronto Maple Leafs made it easy on us as they cruised to a 4-0 win over the Calgary Flames sending my readers to the cashiers cage once again. That gives us winners in four of our last five games and 60% winners since January 2nd.

Detroit Red Wings vs Boston Bruins

Tonight it's off to Beantown where the Boston Bruins take on the Detroit Redwings. There are too many variables to choose a side but those are the variables that we'll use to get involved with the 'total'.

At first look, I assume many bettors will be on the 'under' because they simply see that Dylan Larkin and Thomas Vanek will not start due to injury. Vanek is their leader in points and goals, tied with Larkin. With both out, it's hard to imagine that they'll muster much offense. That kind of logic build the big city in the desert.

?First, the Bruins should be plenty motivated as they not only should be focused on getting a win for head coach Claude Julien, who seems to be involved in rumored firings on a yearly basis, but this is a revenge spot after the Bruins lost two three-goal leads to the Wings in an eventual 6-5 shootout loss six days ago.

?Despite the injuries Jeff Blashill see's his team slowly creeping up to a potential playoff spot. The Wings are just four points out of a postseason birth now so motivation shouldn't be a problem for either team tonight.

?So far it looks as if Tuukka Rask will get the start for the B's but how will his recent bout with headaches affect his performance and is it a bigger issue, perhaps dating back to when he was hit in the neck with a shot a few games ago. I need to know that Rask is 100% before I start backing games to go 'over' with Rask involved. If Rask can't complete the game, as was the case against Pittsburgh, I don't have confidence in Zane McIntyre to keep the game low scoring. We also have to be aware of the fact that McIntyre may actually start this game. If that happens we get a netminder who's goals against is a touch under 4.00 to go with a save percentage that is way below the league standard (.860).
