When you’ve got several hundred Super Bowl props on the NFL odds board, you know some of them are going to be pretty kooky – especially when Donald Trump is involved.
It's official: The New England Patriots are again the most hated team in football. That's according to Public Polling Policy as 42 percent of their respondents said they harbored negative feelings toward the Patriots, while the Atlanta Falcons only drew a 19 percent negative response. That makes Super Bowl LI all the more interesting – and the Super Bowl props that go with it.
And there sure are a whole lot of Super Bowl props on the NFL odds board for Sunday's Big Game (6:30 p.m. ET, Fox). The list gets a little bigger every year and a little stranger. Guess who's in the spotlight this Sunday? That's right: Donald Trump. You can bet on stuff like how many Super Bowl commercials will parody The Donald (Total: 1.5), whether halftime performer Lady Gaga makes an anti-Trump political statement (Yes is favored at 10-13), and, of course, who Trump will pick to win the Super Bowl. The Patriots are 1-10 for that last prop, which tells you something about all those negative feelings they're generating. Trump is also pals with Tom Brady.
Dance In The Dark
The halftime show is usually the go-to source for weird Super Bowl props. Lady Gaga is about as weird as it gets, but she might keep it relatively classy this year. Will she bring a snake on stage (4-5)? Will Fox have to blur her image because of her wardrobe (3-2)? Will her belly button be visible at the start of her performance (5-8)? These are pretty short odds for something so specific – maybe someone with inside knowledge has already loaded up their NFL picks with halftime props.
Otherwise, it's usually a good idea to bet on the least weird things happening when it comes to these props. Will someone fall off the stage during the halftime show (12-1)? Very unlikely. Will the power go out at Houston's NRG Stadium (99-1)? The irony would be delicious, but almost certainly not. You can even make prop bets about whether someone will catch on fire during Lady Gaga's performance (25-1). Who knows, maybe she'll make all three things happen as part of her act, just to mess with Trump.
