Cincy/Jax NFL Preseason Game Preview
The Bengals and Jaguars will square off on Sunday night in Jacksonville. The opening kickoff at EverBank Field is slated for 8:00 PM ET, and it will be nationally televised by NBC. Current (8/25) NFL betting odds indicates that Jacksonville is a 1.5 point favorite (at Heritage), and the posted total is 43.0. This will be the first time these teams have ever met in a preseason game.

Looking for Improvement in Week 3 of Preseason
Jacksonville has gone 0-2 SU&ATS during its first two preseason contests. They lost their opener 17-13 to the Jets and failed to cover as a 3.0-point road underdog. Last week, the Jaguars were beaten by Tampa Bay 27-21, and they closed as a 3.0-point home favorite. Since 2014, Jacksonville has gone an identical 2-5 on both the road and at home during preseason action.

Starting quarterback Blake Bortles is expected to play at least the entire first half on Sunday. Bortles has been razor sharp through his two brief appearances thus far, going 14-18 for 190 yards, throwing a pair of touchdowns passes, and he wasn't intercepted. Veteran backup Chad Henne wasn't quite as good, but he wasn't terrible either, going 12-19 (63.2%) for 127 yards. On a negative note, Henne had 2 of his 19 pass attempts intercepted, and failed to throw for a touchdown.

Jacksonville will look to improve on their offensive 3rd down conversions. They're a poor 6-24 (25%) thus far in the preseason. Defensively, they've held opponents to a very good 28.6% on its 3rd down attempts. The Jaguars should be more cognizant of ball security on offense, and forcing turnovers defensively heading into Sunday's game. They're a -3 in the takeaway/giveaway category to this point.

Building Momentum for Regular Season
Cincinnati is coming off a dominating 30-14 win as a 1.5-point underdog at Detroit last week. The quarterbacking trio of Andy Dalton, A.J. McCarron, and rookie Keith Wenning went a combined 21-29 (64%) for 189 yards. Starter Andy Dalton has played very little during the first two games. Nonetheless, during his short stints, Dalton was an extremely efficient 11-14 (78.6%) while throwing for 110 yards. Cincinnati's #2 signal caller A.J. McCarron has performed admirably, going 21-31 (67.8%) for 220 yards and had 2 touchdown passes. Dalton and McCarron figure to get the vast majority if not all of Cincinnati's offensive snaps on Sunday.

NFL Preseason Super Betting Angle
Any away team (Bengals) that's +2.0 to -2.0, playing in their third preseason game, and is coming off a contest in which they allowed 25 points or less, resulted in those away teams going 47-11 SU&ATS (80.7%) since 1986.

Final Take and Pick
Let's keep things in proper perspective. Both team's starters will receive extensive playing time on Sunday, and much more so compared to each of their first two games. Jacksonville is expected to be a drastically improved team. Nevertheless, this is still a Jaguars franchise that's gone a combined 18-62 (.225) over the past five seasons. Conversely, through that identical time period, Cincinnati has made the playoffs in each of those five seasons, and they compiled a cumulative regular season mark of 51-28-1 (.646). Furthermore, add in the aforementioned preseason betting angle, and I'll go with the road team as one of my Sunday NFL picks.
