NFL Week 8 Betting - Identifying Early Sharp Action

New England Patriots player in action

The Saints, Patriots and defending NFC champion Panthers have received the bulk of the early action at the betting windows  in NFL Week 8 in expected waves of Sharp money. Let’s look at these three games and see if what the Wiseguys are doing is making sense.

Seattle Seahawks at New Orleans Saints, 1:03 pm. ET

Line Opener: Saints -3 -120, Sunday
Current Line: Saints -2½ -120 (Bookmaker)

A combination of three main things in this week 8 affair from the big easy: Early gamblers knowing the Seahawks are coming off a grueling game, have to travel 2 Time Zones east and play at 10 a.m. in their body clocks and have so much trouble scoring TDs, while Drew Brees and the Saints 21/1 score in their sleep (29.3 ppg, #3 in NFL). But this is just a ½-point move and sportsbooks will probably continue to have this point spread in the same tight range it's currently in, and this is a toss-up and definitely a game in which the underdog Saints can emerge victoriously.

New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills, 1:03 p.m. ET

Line Opener: Patriots -4½ -120, Sunday
Current Line: Patriots -7 +110 (5Dimes)

It seems the Sharps have figured out the Patriots are the NFL's strongest team, with such an improved Defense (15.3 ppg, #4 in NFL) these L3 seasons. The Bills have played great since making Anthony Lynn their new OC but lost last week at Miami and Rob Gronkowski and New England are 15-7 ATS the L22 in the series and an impressive 8-2 the L10 at Buffalo, no doubt something the Wiseguys are very well aware of.

Free NFL Pick: Patriots -5 -108

Arizona Cardinals at Carolina Panthers, 1:03 p.m. ET

Line Opener: Pick ‘em, Sunday
Current Line: Panthers -3 -105 (JustBet)

The Sharps are applying the same theory here as the Saints-Seahawks affair—fading the team flying back from the West—in this case 2 Time Zones—the Cardinals who are coming off that aforementioned 5-quarter Defensive slugfest where no TDs were scored. And Carolina really need to the win here with the 1-5 start. The Cardinals have played 2 Overs on the Road—4 straight dating back to last season—and 4 Unders at Home, so expecting points here (48, BetOnline) seems logical, with Panthers Overs 16-5 the L21 vs. the NFC and Cardinals Overs 36-16 the L52 after scoring less than 15 points in their previous game and the L2 in this series have gone Over.

Free NFL Pick: Over 48
