Baltimore Ravens players in action

Reading this Battle of the Beltway preview between the Redskins and Ravens for Sunday's action to conclude with capper's winning NFL pick. The Ravens are -3.5 on odds with a total of 45.

Redskins What To Watch For

Washington (2-2) is the defending NFC East champion, but I expected the Redskins to finish last in the division this year and that's where they sit with the Giants. The Skins are trending up on a two-game winning streak after beating the NFL's worst team, Cleveland, 31-20 in Week 4. The Washington offense managed only 301 yards but was 4-for-5 in getting touchdowns in the red zone. The Redskins were 3-for-14 combined in that category the first three games.

The running game also broke out vs. the Browns with Matt Jones carrying 22 times for 117 yards and a TD. He didn't top 65 yards in any of the first three games. Finally, Kirk Cousins had only six incompletions in 27 attempts and threw three TD passes. But, again, consider the opposition.

The defense actually didn't play that great vs. the Browns in allowing 380 yards to the least-talented offensive roster in the league. The Redskins' defense allowed 102 yards after first contact as well. They have allowed a combined 248 yards after contact the past two games, second-worst in the NFL (i.e. they aren't finishing tackles). In addition, Washington is allowing an incredibly high third-down conversion percentage of 57.4, by far the worst in the NFL. When the opposing team has a 3rd-and-7 or longer, it has converted 15 of 25 (60 percent).

Injury-wise, linebacker Ryan Kerrigan sprained his elbow vs. Cleveland but that's actually good news as the team worried it was much worse. Linebacker/safety Su'a Cravens and safety David Bruton are both in the concussion protocol. They are all questionable. Cornerback Bashaud Breeland and guard Shawn Lauvao, who missed the Cleveland game with ankle injuries, could return.

Washington is 2-2 ATS on NFL betting odds and 4-0 O/U.

Ravens What To Watch For

Baltimore (3-1) was probably the most unlucky team in the NFL last year in terms of injuries and losses in close games. Fortune had smiled on the Ravens the first three weeks this year with a six-point win over the Bills, five-point win at the Browns and two-point win at Jacksonville. That luck ran out Week 4 at home as Oakland rallied for a 28-27 victory.

Derek Carr's fourth TD pass of the day and third to Michael Crabtree, with 2:12 left, was the winning score. The Ravens could only get to midfield on their final drive in an attempt for a winning field-goal try. Statistically, the Ravens dominated by winning the yardage battle 412-261 and holding the ball for nearly 10 minutes longer. But they didn't score their first TD until late in the third quarter. Terrance West ran for a career-high 113 yards with a TD on 21 carries. Joe Flacco threw for 298 yards with a score.

West is probably a popular pickup in your fantasy leagues this week. That's because the team cut former starting tailback Justin Forsett. But promising fourth-round rookie Kenneth Dixon is expected to make his NFL regular-season debut this week off a knee injury and siphon carries. Coach John Harbaugh also thinks rookie left tackle Ronnie Stanley, the team's first-round pick, will play after sitting vs. Oakland with a foot injury.

This is the first meeting between the Ravens and Redskins since 2012 and only Washington's second road game in the series (Redskins lost in 2008).

Baltimore is 2-2 ATS on NFL picks and 2-2 O/U.

Washington Redskins vs Baltimore Ravens

Take Ravens and 'over' for your week 4 NFL picks. Washington is 1-4 ATS in its past five vs. teams with a winning record. The 'over' is 5-0 in the Redskins' past five on the road.
