NFL Week 5 MNF Team Props: Bucs vs. Panthers

Carolina Panthers players celebrating

We went to Ouch Town on our prop picks for Sunday, but we finished out the day with a cash on the Packers’ team total and I am back here on Monday night to try and turn this ship back to Profit Town! Here are two of my best team props for Monday night!

Carolina Panthers O/U 24.5 points

If you have listed to the Sharp vs. Swinger podcast here at Sportsbook Review, you'll know that being contrarian can pay off in sports betting. With Cam Newton out and his backup Derek Anderson in the game, there are going to be those that just assume upfront that the Panthers' offense is going to take a nosedive.

However, Anderson has dozens of starts in his career and the Bucs' defense is still not very good, especially against the pass. The Panthers' running game can survive without Jonathon Stewart for the time being and Anderson now with a week of practice could easily put up 27 points here at home on Monday night.

Anderson threw a few picks last week but led two touchdown-scoring drives before that in relief of Newton after he was knocked out of the game. He also threw for 172 yards in a short amount of time and the Bucs' secondary isn't much better than Atlanta's. With a week of practice under his belt, I see Anderson leading the Panthers to a 27-20 victory, so add the over on their team total for your NFL week 5 prop picks as well.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers O/U 2.5 sacks

The Panthers haven't exactly been a team that has avoided getting Cam Newton sacked this season, but there is a big problem for the Bucs in this game. So far this season Tampa is tied for 21st in sacks with nine through the first four games. Sure, it's respectable, but not so much when you realize they are missing about half of those sacks in this game.

Gerald McCoy, the Bucs' star defensive tackle is doubtful for Monday night, while his fellow lineman Clinton McDonald is also doubtful and Noah Spence, one of their ends is out as well. That's four of their nine sacks this season that are all looking like they'll be on the sidelines.

Tampa isn't going to be able to get much of a pass rush without those three guys and Anderson isn't the type of guy that takes a lot of sacks. He has a career average of only getting sacked about once every 20 pass attempts. Compare that to Newton who gets sacked about every 13 pass attempts and you have a scenario where the Bucs will likely not be able to sack Anderson too much on the road.
