N.Y. Giants players celebrating

Giants are making timely plays when needed and they'll have to continue to do so as they face a desperate inter-division rival in the Washington Redskins (0-2). Can the Skins break out of this funk or will the Giants secure the lead in the NFC East Division?

Washington Redskins vs N.Y. Giants
Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. EST on Sunday, September 25th at MetLife Stadium, in East Rutherford, New Jersey. According to 5 Dimes Sportsbook, the Giants are a 4 1/2 point betting favorite across the board and the total for the game is listed at 46.

Resilience
Last week, the Giants managed to hold off a tough New Orleans Saints team which forced turnovers and managed to tie the game against New York. As the game was winding down, Eli Manning threw a long pass to sure-handed receiver, Odell Beckham Jr. that was sure to be a big play and possibly a touchdown and Beckham Jr. dropped the ball. It was amazing to see as we never see "OBJ" drop passes. That said, Manning found Victor Cruz for another big play and the Giants basically ran out the clock, kicked a field goal, and defeated the New Orleans Saints, 16-13. What I've noticed right off the bat is the Giants are making plays as a team and winning games in which they would've lost in the past and now, they're in the driver's seat against a vulnerable Washington Redskins team who need a win in the worst way.

Sterling Shepard
One player that has been a bit of a surprise for New York has been rookie Sterling Shepard. People thought that Shepard would add more talent to the Giants receiving core which already includes Odell Beckham Jr and Victor Cruz. Shepard leads the Giants in receiving with 11 catches for 160 yards and 1 TD. Shepard has one of the best quarterbacks in the league delivering him the ball in Eli Manning and look for this rookie to be a big part of this Giants offense.

Mistakes and Weaknesses
Head Coach, Jay Gruden has complete confidence in his quarterback, Kirk Cousins. Cousins has proven that he can be a winner and lead the Skins to the playoffs. That said, Cousins hasn't helped his own cause in the first two games of the season as he has 1 TD and 3 INT to go along with 693 yards passing.

No matter how good a thrower that Cousins is, he can't keep turning the ball over or Washington will lose close games like they did this past week against the Dallas Cowboys. With DeSean Jackson (142 yards), Jordan Reed (134 yards, 1 TD), Jamison Crowder and Pierre Garcon, Cousins has a ton of targets to throw the football to. He just must make the throw and not force the issue.

One weakness that has really hurt Washington is their running game. They gave up Alfred Morris to the Cowboys only to see Morris score against them while their leading running back, Matt Jones, hasn't been as effective as Washington has wanted him to be. Jones leads the SKins in rushing with 20 carries for 85 yards and 1 TD. That kind of production just won't cut if against the G-Men.

It would be difficult to see Washington to fall to 0-3, but that's just what's going to happen in this game as the Giants are the better overall team and at home. Take the Giants for you week 3 NFL predictions.
