The NFL Regular Season is here! Check out our Week 2 Opening Odds Report!
The NFL odds for this one just opened up a few days ago, and right now the 'Hawks are a -3 favorite with a total of 44.5. Let’s take a look at the rest of the factors surrounding this game, and see who we should favor with our sports picks going into Week2's Sunday night game.
Russell Wilson and the Seahawks traveled almost 3000 miles to play their first regular season game, and even though they were hampered by injury, and on the road, they managed to sneak away with a win, 12-7. Wilson played solidly, but the 'Hawks’ running game was awful against an improved Carolina defense. Marshawn Lynch had only 43 yards rushing on 17 carries and was shut down all day. Now going up against the 49ers’ defense, things don’t look great for the Hawks unless they get going at home. Seattle was also missing starters Brandon Browner CB, and Cliff Avril DE, on Sunday, and their Week 2 statuses are unknown.
The 49ers won in impressive, but not convincing fashion on Sunday when they beat out the Packers. Anquan Boldin’s debut as a 49er went better than I think anyone expected, even after Michael Crabtree’s injury. Vernon Davis had a pair of touchdowns as well, and while the 'Niners didn’t stop the Packers, they slowed them down enough to win the game, 34-28. The Seahawks have a much less imposing offense than Green Bay’s, and even though they are now on the road, San Francisco has won in Seattle once in the last two seasons.
Right now I have to be leaning towards the 49ers for my NFL betting picks, but you have to get the right NFL odds before a lean starts having value. Right now as it stands, the line is pretty sharp. I expect if it does move it will shift more towards the 'Hawks. Right now you can lay -3 with Seattle and have the price at +105.
If the line so happens to creep up to +3.5 49ers, that is when I would start to consider an early week bet on the underdogs, but only with it is +3.5 or more. Right now at +3, and even +2.5 at some shops is not that appetizing for a team that has lost seven of their last ten trips to Seattle.
Be sure to hop over and check out how to bet this game against the spread!
As I mentioned above, the 'Hawks have owned the Niners SU at home in the last ten years, but not only have they beat up on them SU, they have also been very successful ATS. The Seahawks are 5-1 ATS in their last six games against the 'Niners at home, and overall they have covered in three straight games against the 49ers.
However, overall Seattle is only 1-4 SU in their last five meetings with the 49ers, of which three of the games were played in San Francisco. I still think the 'Niners could end up being undervalued at some point this week, but they aren’t there yet, so tread lightly around this game as Sunday approaches.
If the NFL odds shift, that could create some value, however that might not happen until Saturday or Sunday. Make sure you check back at the end of the week for my picks on the spread and total of this game.
