We usually provide you with injury reports on players to clarify your NFL picks here at SBR Forum, but this time we have an injury update on a head coach for Thursday night's Dallas at Minnesota showdown.
If you think a head coach is very important to a team's success on game day, you might want to take the Cowboys on NFL picks Thursday in Minneapolis as Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer, a terrific defensive mind, will be forced to miss the game after having emergency eye surgery to repair a detached retina Wednesday night. GM Rick Spielman said Zimmer sitting out this week was "for the best interest of his health."
Spielman said the Zimmer's health is being assessed one day at a time, and that no decisions have been made regarding his availability for the next game, Week 14 at Jacksonville. The GM added that Zimmer ran every practice and meeting in advance of the game, underscoring that the players are prepared to play.
Zimmer had planned to have this surgery on Friday but apparently something happened to move it up. Special teams coordinator Mike Priefer will fill in as the interim head coach as to not disturb the offensive or defensive routines. Interim offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur and offensive line coach Tony Sparano have both been NFL head coaches previously but were passed over.
You may best know Priefer from being suspended three games in 2014 after an independent investigation of the Vikings organization into claims by former punter Chris Kluwe showed that Priefer made a homophobic remark during the 2012 season.
The Vikings are currently +3 on NFL odds at most of SBR Forum's best sportsbooks. The Cowboys bring a franchise-record 10-game winning streak into the game.
