Youngstown vs Valparaiso - Picks Of The Day, February 11th

Valpo Crusaders Players

Saturday, February 11, 2017 7:50 PM GMT

In what appears to be a major mismatch, the Valparaiso Crusaders host the Youngstown State Penguins. The Penguins have been "cold as ice" all season long and this is a squad that Valpo had defeated quite easily earlier in the season. Can Alec Peters and the Crusaders make it 2-0 while covering the spread against the inferior Penguins?

Youngstown vs Valparaiso

Smooth Sailing for Valpo

While Valparaiso has had some difficulties in dealing with teams such as Kentucky, this is a team that's consistently defeated average or below average teams where talent is concerned all season long.

The Crusaders defeated Youngstown State earlier in the season on the road 78-62, and a matchup at home appears even more appealing for Valpo as they look to pad their record. This is a Crusaders team which has also won 9 out of their last 10 games. Their schedule the rest of the season appears to be weak and I expect Valparaiso to run the table.

Alec Peters

I'm not sure if senior Alec Peters has what it take's to succeed at the next level, but he certainly will get the opportunity as he's been a very productive player for Valpataiso throughout his collegiate career.

For the season, Peters is averaging 23.2 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. Although he averages over 16 shot attempts per game, this is a player that won't force a poor shot. An example of this was in Valpo's last game against Cleveland State in which Peters finished up with 12 points and 14 rebounds while shooting 50% from the field on just 10 shot attempts. Along with being nearly automatic at the free throw line, this makes Alec Peters a real problem for Youngstown State.

For Youngstown State, they have their own superstar in Flint, Michigan's Cameron Morse. Morse is averaging over 20 points per game for the 2nd consecutive season and is coming off of a monster performance against UIC in which he lit up UIC for 44 points! Guess what? Youngstown State lost the game and I don't see anything different happening here as Valparaiso is the far superior squad.
