Santa Clara vs #1 Gonzaga - Picks Of The Day, Feb 4th

Gonzaga Bulldogs

Saturday, February 4, 2017 7:30 PM GMT

The Gonzaga Bulldogs have been relentless all season long, thus earning them the #1 spot in the nation as their record remains unblemished and this has been a team to tail all season long. In another mismatch tonight, the Bulldogs host Santa Clara and as usual, this game could get ugly as it does in most games involving the top team in the land.

Santa Clara vs #1 Gonzaga

Deficiencies and Dominance

Scoring points (66.4) and rebounds (30.4 per game) are two problem areas that should hurt Santa Clara as they will need a ton of points to keep pace with the Bulldogs who average 85 points per game and allow a mere 62 points.

Thanks to the presence of 7 foot 1, 300 pound Przemek Karnowski, the Gonzaga Bulldogs have a big man in the middle that will create havoc for the opposition and let's not forget, despite being the betting favorite in their respective games, Gonzaga is 15-4-1 ATS. Their last game was a push, but odds makers are creating Gonzaga to be such a large betting favorite that it's asking a lot for them to cover. Off of the push, 21 points seems reasonable at home as this is a team with a +23 differential ratio in points/points against for the season.

In their last game, Gonzaga got off to a quick start against BYU with a 42-26 lead at halftime, but the Cougars were up to the challenge to at least keep this game competitive. Gonzaga managed 47 rebounds and held the Cougars to just 35.8% from the field.

Multi-Faceted Superstar

Nigel Williams-Goss has led the Bulldogs all season long and was a one man show against BYU as he led Gonzaga with 33 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Johnathan Williams had a nice 12 point, 8 rebound effort and is a very good 3rd option on this squad. Against the Cougars, it was all Williams-Goss as the transfer from Washington played the entire 40 minutes in the game.

In his last 3 games, Nigel Williams- Goss is averaging 23.3 points, 6 rebounds, and 5.6 rebound, and 2 steals per game. He's a fantastic two way player that makes others around him better as Gonzaga's record indicates.

Jared Brownridge

Santa Clara will counter with leading scorer, Jared Brownridge. Brownridge is averaging 18.5 points per game and his shooting efficiency is a bit deceptive as he's shooting a tad over 40% from the field. This is due in part to the 9 3-point attempts that he attempts every game. Gonzaga's defense will need to focus on Brownridge as he can make this game interesting if he find's room for open shots.
