Denver Nuggets

Tuesday, January 24, 2017 5:49 PM GMT

By the Numbers is a daily NBA column featuring three top selections according to historical trends and game time matchups. Let’s review the top picks for Tuesday's slate and look for the best options available.

Bulls (22-23 SU, 21-24 ATS) vs. Magic (18-28 SU, 21-25 ATS)

  • Orlando is 1-4-1 ATS in their last six home games vs. a team with a road winning percentage of less than .400.

  • Orlando is 1-4 ATS in their last five home games.

  • Orlando is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games playing on one day's rest.

  • Orlando is 3-9-1 ATS in their last 13 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.

  • Chicago is 7-2 ATS in their last nine games playing on 2 day's rest.

Let's put it right out there, the Magic have owned the Bulls over the last three seasons when the game is played in Orlando. However, in the only meeting between these clubs this season the Bulls swamped the Magic 112-80 in the Windy City just a little over two weeks ago. In addition, the Magic have recent injuries to Jodie Meeks (out with thumb injury) coupled with a banged up DJ Augustin. The Bulls should cover this number with relative ease.

Clippers (30-16 SU, 23-23 ATS) vs. 76ers (15-27 SU, 24-17-1 ATS)

  • Philadelphia is 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a straight up loss.

  • Philadelphia is 5-0 ATS in their last five after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.

  • Philadelphia is 15-7 ATS in their last 22 games following an ATS loss.

  • Philadelphia is 5-0 ATS in their last five home games.

  • Philadelphia is 6-1 ATS in their last seven games vs. a team with a winning percentage above .600.

  • Philadelphia is 4-0 ATS in their last four games as an underdog of 0.5-4.5.

  • Los Angeles is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games vs. a team with a winning percentage below .400.

  • Los Angeles is 1-3-1 ATS in their last five games when their starting five players combine for more than 160 minutes from the previous day.

  • Los Angeles is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games.

  • Los Angeles is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a losing home record.

The Clippers defeated the Sixers the last time they were in the City of Brotherly Love by the score of 98-92 but failed to cover the nine-point impost the NBA odds makers were dealing on that day back in February of 2016. The 76'ers may still be a bottom feeder in the standings but those who have backed them in their NBA picks have gone 24-17-1 against the number. Let's look for Philly to win outright as the Clips have their superstar Chris Paul sidelined and a banged up Blake Griffin who may go but won't be at full throttle.

Jazz (29-17 SU, 20-24-2 ATS) vs. Nuggets (18-25 SU, 22-20-1 ATS)

  • Denver is 4-1 ATS in their last five after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.

  • Denver is 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall.

  • Denver is 5-1 ATS in their last six after scoring 100 points or more in their previous game.

  • Utah is 1-5 ATS in their last six games following a straight up loss.

  • Utah is 1-4 ATS in their last five games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.

  • Utah is 6-13 ATS in their last 19 games as an underdog of 0.5-4.5.

  • Utah is 3-12 ATS in their last 15 games as a road underdog of 0.5-4.5.

Though it is a bit perplexing to see a team with a .630 winning percentage as underdogs to an opponent with a .419 winning percentage we must consider that in the only meeting in Denver this season the up-tempo pace of the Nuggets was too much for Utah's top defense, yet whose offense ranks a dismal 27th, in a decisive 105-91 victory in Denver. In addition, Utah's Rodney Hood and his 14 PPG average will be sidelined with a knee injury.
