By the Numbers is a daily NBA column featuring Swinger’s top selections according to historical trends and game time matchups. Let’s review the top picks for Sunday’s slate and cash in our NBA picks.

Suns (22-47 SU, 34-33-2 ATS) vs. Pistons (33-36 SU, 33-36)

* Detroit is 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games following a straight up loss.

* Detroit is 5-1 ATS in their last six games vs. a team with a winning percentage below .400.

* Detroit is 9-1 ATS in their last 10 games as a home favorite.

* Detroit is 6-0 ATS in their last six games as a favorite of 5.0-10.5.

* Phoenix is 7-19 ATS in their last 26 road games vs. a team with a home winning percentage of greater than .600.

* Phoenix is 1-4 ATS in their last five games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.

* Phoenix is 1-4 ATS in their last five road games vs. a team with a winning home record.

* Phoenix is 1-4 ATS in their last five after scoring 100 points or more in their previous game.

I understand the skepticism concerning the large number that the oddsmakers are hanging on the sub .500 Detroit Pistons. I get it but let's take note of a few reasons why Detroit is the right side. First, the Suns are not a good team, to begin with, but have now been racked by injuries to their best players including Brandon Knight, Tyson Chandler and most recently Eric Bledsoe. Second, the Pistons are a different team when they play in the Motor City as evidenced by their 23-13 straight up and 21-15 ATS record. Finally, the last two meetings held in Detroit between these two clubs resulted in ATS covers for the Pistons in both games, and the numbers are leaning heavily towards Detroit. Swallow hard and lay the lumber with the home chalk here.

Pacers (35-33 SU, 31-36-1 ATS ) vs. Raptors (40-29 SU, 37-31-1 ATS)

* Toronto is 1-8 ATS in their last nine games as a favorite of 0.5-4.5.

* Toronto is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games as a favorite.

* Toronto is 0-5 ATS in their last five games following a straight up win.

* Toronto is 2-6 ATS in their last eight home games vs. a team with a losing road record.

* Indiana is 21-8-1 ATS in their last 30 Sunday games.

* Indiana is 4-0 ATS in their last four games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.

* Indiana is 25-10-2 ATS in their last 37 games playing on three or more days rest.

It's hard to believe these Eastern Conference entries have not faced each other all season until now but this is the first of three regular-season tilts between the two clubs. The Pacers have cashed for all those backing them in their NBA picks in their last four matchups against the Raptors and we like them to continue that streak. Perhaps the biggest thing Indiana has going for it is a break in the schedule at a critical point in the grind that is the NBA season. The Pacers are 25-10-2 against the number on three day's rest and that will come to bear in a game between relatively evenly matched opponents. Oh, and we'll take the 3 ½ point head start as well.
