Both the Atlanta Hawks and the Boston Celtics made the playoffs last season and this year they look to make deeper pushes. Oddsmakers have projected Atlanta to do a little bit worse than last season but for the Celtics to improve. Which direction will these two teams head? Let us review their futures win totals.

Atlanta Hawks

Last season Atlanta won 48 games and after beating Boston in six games got swept by Cleveland in the postseason. Of course, the big acquisition for them was picking up Dwight Howard in the off-season so I'm a little bit surprised that odds makers have come out with what I consider a pretty disrespectful number across the board for Mike Budenholzer. Probably the reason for the line is that the East is a little bit better this season and the Hawks are not getting any younger, but they are still quite talented and I don't really see them having that big of a drop-off. They have a decent amount of depth so I don't really feel hesitant about thinking they will get over 44 wins this season. Although they dropped off quite a bit from their 60 wins season just two years ago and they haven't really reloaded they still have all the pieces, as well I actually think Howard will fit well in the system much like Tim Duncan did in the same type of offense in San Antonio. Because of their veteran presence like Paul Milsap and Kent Bazemore, I believe they will also be good on the defensive end so look for Atlanta to make the playoffs again this season.

Boston Celtics

Last year the Boston Celtics surprised the NBA by winning 48 games and making the playoffs only to get knocked out by Atlanta in the first round. Injuries plagued Boston quite a bit last year but odds makers have come out with a big number for this talented, deep, and well-coached team. With their pickup of Al Horford coming over from Atlanta they should be right in the mix in the Eastern conference by the end of the season but it'll be tough to grab the number one seed away from Cleveland. Because this team is quite young and deep I have no problem believing they will achieve exactly what odds makers have them doing this season. As most basketball aficionados I'm a huge fan of Brad Stevens and lofty expectations are the norm for Boston so look for them to embrace the challenge. With a solid backcourt of Avery Bradley and Isaiah Thomas along with a lot of returners that understands Stevens' system, they should be able to get over this total. Probably the biggest hurdle they will have to overcome is the fact that they are no longer the underdog in the NBA picks.
