NBA Picks: Back Hornets In Quest For #4 Spot In The East Against Magic

It's the last day of the NBA Regular Season, but Hornets' goal is to win tonight vs. Magic with their starters as they're tied with Celtics for the 4th spot in EC. Check out the NBA pick of the game.

Something To Play For
Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. EST at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, North Carolina. According to Bookmaker Sportsbook, the Hornets are a 9 point betting favorite and the total for the game is listed 208.5.

Boston is also playing and the 4th and 5th spots in the NBA Eastern Conference have yet to be decided, but in essence, in the 1st round, the 4th and 5th ranked teams play eachother. It's just a matter of who get's home court and home court advantage is important.

Charlotte's Starting Five
The fantasy league enthusiast want's me to confirm Charlotte's starters and make sure that they're going to give it a full effort and they are. The only question at hand is Nicolas Batum being a game decision. If Batum can't play, Jeremy Lin (Linsanity) will be implemented into the starting 5. Charlotte has a bit of a problem.

Although they want the #4 spot, they would much rather have a healthy Nicolas Batum as he's the 2nd best player on the team. I expect him to play if he can. No legitimate basketball player would sit out in a situation such as this. Charlotte has already proven that they can beat Boston on the road as they defeated the Celtics 114-100 in their last game, but this game is still important and high ranked on the NBA odds boards.

Linsanity
If you're looking at Lin starting, you're getting a guy who more than doubled his seasonal scoring average in his last game as he poured in 25 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals against Boston of all teams. If Lin played like that always, the Hornets would be near the top of the Eastern Conference, but that's asking too much. He's an 11 point per game player that's turnover-prone.

If Lin does indeed start, I expect him to play well as the stakes for the Magic are very low. The goal for Lin is to find the open man; something that he excels at and avoid turnovers. Look for a 15 plus point game from the 5th year player out of Harvard.

The Orlando Magic will be without Victor Oladipo and that's huge as Evan Fournier fills in for Oladipo. The guard position will prove to be a major advantage for Charlotte.

Big Al
He might not be the 18 point, 10 rebound player that he once was, but Al Jefferson is still capable of coming up in the clutch. In this game, his primary goal will be to stop Nikola Vucevic, who also is an 18 point, 10 rebound guy. Vucevic is in his prime and there should be a lot of physicality in the paint. Jefferson is intelligent to know what's at stake and has a very sweet touch for a big man.

Let's not forget, Vucevic is also a game-time decision as Orlando has nothing to play for. I could see Vucevic sitting this one out and Jefferson playing way above his head as he would guard Dewayne Dedmon.

Everything in this game points to the Hornets winning because the Magic might just sit their starters. The only NBA pick here is laying 9 points and taking the playoff-contending Hornets.
