Home underdogs often make profitable wagers, but tonight, we’re focused on road underdogs. The Oklahoma City Thunder travel to Texas to face the Houston Rockets. The Toronto Raptors will be shorthanded against the Utah Jazz, opening the door for another productive performance from Precious Achiuwa, and the Sacramento Kings and San Antonio Spurs clash in a matchup featuring an unreasonable point total.

Spread: Thunder -5.5 vs. Rockets (-108 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐⭐

It’s always a bit of a risk taking a road favorite, especially when that favorite has a losing record. Houston has been just that bad this season, and Oklahoma City has been phenomenal against the spread, so we’re backing the Thunder. 

The Thunder went 10-4 ATS in 14 January games, playing some of their best basketball of the season. After losing 13 straight, Houston has won two of its last four, but one of those was against a depleted Detroit Pistons team that collapsed in the final minute of the game. 

Houston remains without its starting backcourt, as both Jalen Green and Kevin Porter Jr. will be sidelined. The Thunder will be missing key perimeter defender Lu Dort, but the team still has star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and the Thunder have the best ATS record in the NBA (31-18-1) and second-best ATS record on the road (15-8-1).

Prop: Precious Achiuwa double-double vs. Jazz (+130 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

O.G. Anunoby is out for at least another week, meaning Achiuwa should remain in the starting lineup. He’s been wildly successful over his last six games, averaging 17.2 points and 10.5 rebounds. Of those six games, he started four and averaged 16.8 points and 11.8 rebounds.

Despite posting a double-double in five of his last six games, Achiuwa’s prop is available at plus-money odds, so we’ll take advantage. Utah allows the seventh-fewest rebounds per game at home, which may account for the plus-money pricing, but two of Achiuwa’s double-doubles came against teams in the top-half of fewest rebounds allowed. I’m not scared of the matchup, and you shouldn’t be, either.

Total: Kings-Spurs Under 244.5 (-110 via Caesars) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Here we go again. I recommended the Under for Kings-Timberwolves in Monday’s best bets article, and it cashed, so we’re going back to the well. Everyone loves a high-scoring game, so while betting the Under might not seem exciting, it’s the right move for such a massive total.

Despite averaging the most points per game in the NBA, Sacramento sports the highest Under percentage on the road with a 6-16 record. The team has hit the Under in four straight and six of seven and has gone 5-7 in games with a point total of 240 or higher this season. The Spurs hit the Over more than any other team in the NBA, and these teams hit the Over in both prior matchups this season. Despite those two Overs, we’ll take the Under and bet on Sacramento keeping this a lower-scoring game.
