Thursday, April 28, 2016 7:28 PM GMT

Let’s take our weekly thumbnail sketch look at the Three-Way and Totals soccer odds, some basic handicapping information for each match and offer up some picks for some games.

Friday, April 29, 2016
New York Red Bulls vs. FC Dallas

3-Way Odds: RBNY +150, FC Dallas +180, Draw +229 (at Bet365)
Total: 2½ 'Over' -120, 'Under' -120 (Sky Bet)

FC Dallas hasn't won at the RBNY since 2006 and Bradley Wright-Phillips (2 goals last week in 3-2 win over OCSC) the Red Bulls are unbeaten in the L4 meetings (3-1-0) in this series (L5 meetings: DAL 0-0 RBNY, DAL 0-1 RBNY, RBNY 1-0 DAL, DAL 2-1 RBNY, DAL 0-2 RBNY) which has seen 3 straight 'Unders' and 4 'Unders' in L5 with just 2 goals scored in the L3 matches.

Michael Barrios (4 goals) and FCD (5-2-2, 15 GF-13 GA) have gotten off to a great start and sit atop the western Conference at this writing while RBNY (2-0-6 – W-D-L, 8 GF-17 GA) have really been scuffling and can't afford a Loss here, making this a Stay Away, and one of those games that sort of fits the Draw mold.

The Trend screams 'Under', but RBNY is too desperate and Nervous in this spot while FCD has too many guys who want to score right now in Barrios, Max Urruti (3 goals), Tesho Akindele (3 goals) and Fabian Castillo, among others.

Final Score Prediction: Red Bulls 1 FC Dallas 1

Seattle Sounders vs. Columbus Crew
3-Way Odds: Sounders +120, Crew +200, Draw +240 (PaddyPower)
Total: 2½ 'Over' -120, 'Under' -120 (Sky Bet)

The Crew have won their L2 trips to the Emerald City (SEA 1-2 CLB, SEA 0-2 CLB) so Kei Kamara (3 goals), Justin Meram (2 goals) and the Crew should be Confident enough playing in this usually hostile environment. This is really a game between two proud clubs who got off to horrific starts this MLS Regular Season and a Draw is very possible here, although Clint Dempsey (1 goal) and Seattle (2-1-4 – W-D-L, 7 GF-10 GA) need to bounce back after losing 3-1 at the Colorado Rapids in Week 8.

The visiting team has always (strangely with the 3 Time Zone Difference) done well in this series and has W4 in a row. But with Sounders Rookie Jordan Marshall (2 goals) clicking and the Home Crowd expecting a ‘W' and 3 points, this is a tough spot for the Crew as well as for Gamblers as anything can happen, Total or Side. The Weather Forecast for Seattle on Saturday: Sunny conditions with Passing Clouds, a High of 65° (Fahrenheit) with NW Winds of 5-10 mph, or ideal for Soccer in the Pacific Northwest.

Final Score Prediction: Sounders 2 Crew 1

Philadelphia Union vs. San José Earthquakes
3-Way Odds: Union +120, Earthquakes +200, Draw +240 (Coral)
Total: 2½ 'Over' -137, 'Under' +100 (Betfred)

Chris Wondolowski (7 goals) scored for the 4th straight game in Week 8 as San José remained unbeaten at Home with a 1-0 win over Sporting Kansas City. The L5 Meetings in this series (SJ 1-2 PHI, PHI 4-2 SJ, SJ 1-0 PHI, PHI 1-2 SJ, SJ 0-0 PHI) has seen the Both teams To Score (‘Yes') go 3-1 in the L4 with the earthquakes scoring at least 1 goal in those L4 and Philadelphia totaling 7 goals in that span.

Philadelphia's win in the last meeting was its first against San José since 2011. The Weather Channel forecasts a High of 66° for Chester on Saturday afternoon, with Cloudy conditions and W Winds of 5-10 mph.

Final Score Prediction: Union 1 Earthquakes 1

Montréal Impact vs. Colorado Rapids
3-Way Odds: Impact -187, Rapids + 550, Draw +350 (Bet365)
Total: 2½ 'Over' -125, 'Under' +100 (PStan James)

As the Montréal Impact are still a relatively new club in MLS, there have only been 4 Meetings in this series which have seen scorelines of COL 0-1 MTL, COL 4-1 MTL, MTL 3-4 COL and COL 3-2 MTL, so the BTTS (‘Yes') is 3-1 and there have been 3 'Overs' in the 4 games with an average of 4.5 gpg being scored and no Draws played as of yet.

Here, the odds look a bit inflated for Didier Drogba (1 goals) and Montréal with the Rapids (5-1-2, 10 GF-6 GA) priced as high as +550 (BetVictor, SkyBet) in the Three-Way marketplace in some British sportsbooks but Colorado will be traveling 2,953 miles east and playing in a Time Zone (EDT) three hours behind their normal Body Clocks. The Weather Forecast for Montréal on Saturday afternoon calls for Mostly Sunny skies with a High of 58° and Winds of 6 mph, so pretty decent for Quebec in Spring.

Expect Ignacio Piatti (4 goals), Dominic Oduro (2 goals) and Drogba (1 goal) to find a way to get a goal or two against a tough Rapids side – who will get stellar American GK Tim Howard on their Roster in July after the English Premier League is over – while Luis Solignac (3 goals), New Kid On The Block Jermaine Jones (2 goals) and the visitors should be able to get a goal of their own at Saputo.

The Impact should be favored, but at that lofty price backing or recommending to back them is a little too risky and not a true reflection of how much Colorado has seemed to improved overall as a club recently and that (Rapids) +550 looks like a big, fat piece of Chocolate Cake that we know we shouldn't ingest.

Final Score Prediction: Impact 2 Rapids 1

NYCFC vs. Vancouver Whitecaps
3-Way Odds: NYCFC +145, Vancouver +187, Draw +229 (Bet365)
Total: 2½ 'Over' -125, 'Under' +110 (Coral)

There has only been one meeting ever between these two clubs with New York City Football Club (NYCFC) playing in its inaugural season in 2015 with NYCFC winning 2-1 at BC Place in Vancouver. The Whitecaps got their first goal from open play last week (Kekuta Manneh) in a 3-0 win over FC Dallas in Vancouver and the first 8 goals of the season for the Whitecaps had come from an Own Goal, 4 Penalty Kicks and 3 others from Set Pieces.

NYCFC is still winless at Home in The House That Ruth Built and whereas last year there was a large number of goals scored in this venue built for MLB, this season has seen an average of just 2.0 gpg in the 8 games played here (4, 1, 1, 0 goals; 3 'Unders') so far this new season. With just 1 Win heading in here, David Villa (4 goals), Thomas McNamara (2 goals) and NYCFC really need not only the 3 points but the Confidence and the Monkey off their Backs for being the only MLS club yet to win at Home.

But Pedro Morales (4 goals), GK David Ousted and the Whitecaps are no slouch and play in the tougher conference, although the brutal 2,427 miles of Travel and 3 Hour Body Clock difference going from PDT to EDT will be factors. Despite just 2 goals in the L3 matches at Yankee Stadium, it's hard to expect Nothingness here with a Weather Forecast of Mostly Sunny conditions, a High of 62° with Wind of 9 mph.

Final Score Prediction: NYCFC 2 Whitecaps 2

Chicago Fire vs. DC United
3-Way Odds: Fire +130, DC United +200, Draw +250 (888sport)
Total: 2½ 'Over' -111, 'Under' -111 (Unibet)

Fabián Espíndola (3 goals), Álvaro Saborío (3 goals) and the Black-and-Red, DC United (2-3-3, 10 GF-10 GA) head to the Windy City this weekend and this club has done very well lately in this series, W4 straight, including all 3 meetings last MLS season by a combined 8-1 score. The L5 Meetings (DC 4-0 CHI, CHI 0-1 DC, DC 3-1 CHI, DC 2-1 CHI, CHI 3-3 DC) has seen the 'Over' go 4-1 with an average of 3.60 gpg being scored and the Home club winning 4 and losing just once.

And, DCU scored in all 5 of those matches. The Weather Forecast for suburban Chicago on Saturday night calls for Cloudy conditions with strong Winds of 20-30 mph, a 60% chance of rain and a High of 48°. And with Severe Weather currently moving through the area today (Wednesday), it's hard to imagine that Mother Nature won't play some kind of factor in this one and that may be good for 'Under' players as Winds over 15 mph seem to really have an affect on the outdoor professional sports of Soccer, Baseball and Football.

But this clashes with the 3.60 ppg average in the L4 meetings, so gamblers must weigh History vs. Weather here and maybe the best thing to do (as it often is) is to pass (on the Total). The host and 9th-place (Eastern Conference) Fire (1-3-2, 6 GF-7 GA) come in Rested, but like 10th-place NYCFC – which is also sitting on 6 points – have just 1 Win to date. Really tiny violins.

Final Score Prediction: Fire 1 DC United 1

New England Revolution vs. Orlando City SC
3-Way Odds: Revolution -133, OCSC +350, Draw +260 (William Hill)
Total: 2½ 'Over' -137, 'Under' +100 (Betfred)

With Orlando City SC (OCSC) expanding into the MLS just last season, there have only been three Meetings in this Eastern Conference series with two 2-2 Draws being played at the Citrus Bowl in the Sunshine State – where there are Butterscotch Clouds and if you're hungry you can get Tangerines and a Side Order of Ham – with New England winning 3-0 here in the lone meeting at the Home of the NFL's New England Patriots (Sept. 5, 2015). So, that's 3 'Overs' in 3 games with a total of 11 goals being scored.

But with the Weather Forecast in Foxborough on Saturday evening calling for Partly Cloudy conditions, a Low of 38° with Winds of 5-10 mph, it's going to be way too Cold for Soccer in late April, even for Boston. Cyle Larin (4 goals), Kaká and OCSC (2-3-2, 13 GF-11 GA) are winless in their L3 games and need a Win here, but this is always a very hard place for opponents to play, so OCSC looks like they're simply in the wrong place at the wrong time with the Mercury being still way, way too low for the boys from Florida, although (1-5-2, 8 GF-13 GA) with just 1 Win to date, backing and suggesting a pick here on Diego Fagúndez and the Revolution means that something in the water does not compute. Nahgahdah.

Final Score Prediction: Revolution 1 Orlando City 1

Real Salt Lake vs. Houston Dynamo
3-Way Odds: Real Salt Lake -125, Dynamo + 350, Draw +260 (SkyBet)
Total: 2½ 'Over' -150, 'Under' +110 (Paddy Power)

Real Salt Lake and Joao Plata (4 goals) have earned points in their L7 meetings with the Dynamo (1-2-4, 13 GF-14 GA) in suburban Salt Lake City and in the L5 Meetings (HOU 1-3 RSL, RSL 2-0 HOU, HOU 2-5 RSL, RSL 1-0 HOU, HOU 1-0 RSL) 3 Clean Sheets and RSL score a total of 10 goals in the L3 meetings (3.33 gpg). With Will Bruin (2 goals) and the 10th-place (Western Conference) Dynamo struggling, backing the hosts RSL – winners of 4 straight in the series – here at Rio Tinto is the prescription in this spot.

Final Score Prediction: Real Salt Lake 1 Dynamo 0

Portland vs. Toronto FC
3-Way Odds: Timbers +120, Toronto FC +200, Draw +250 (888sport)
Total: 2½ 'Over' -137, 'Under' +100 (Betfred)

What looks like the best Weather (for attending Fans at least) for an MLS game this year comes from the Pacific Northwest of all places (of course) and Portland, Oregon where The Weather Channel is forecasting Sunny skies, a beautiful High of 84° and Winds of 10-20 mph. The L5 meetings in this series (TOR 1-0 POR, TOR 3-2 POR, POR 4-0 TOR, TOR 2-2 POR, POR 2-2 TOR) has been goal-rich with 4 'Overs' in the L5 meetings and and an average of 3.6 gpg over that span with 4 goals being scored the L2 game here in Rose City.

Fanendo Adi (6 goals), Nat Borchers and defending MLS champions Portland will be lying in wait here at a cozy but raucous venue which offers a huge Home-pitch advantage, complete with a Lumberjack sawing slabs of Log off after goals. What does your club do special? TFC and Sebastian Giovinco (6 goals) are a really good and improving team but the combination of the Site Advantage, the distance between Toronto and Portland (2,624 miles) and the Travel, the EDT to PDT Time Zone Difference (3 Hours) and the big fact that this is the final game of a grueling 8-game Road Trip to start the season for the Reds.

Home may be where they say the Heart is, but Home is where TFC hasn't played yet also and the Calendar will be turned from April to May on Sunday morning. We're all getting older. But at least at the same pace.

Final Score Prediction: Timbers 3 Real Salt Lake 1

Sporting Kansas City vs. LA Galaxy
3-Way Odds: Sporting KC +140, LA Galaxy +187, Draw +240 (William Hill)
Total: 2½ 'Over' -120, 'Under' -105 (BetVictor)

Dominic Dwyer (4 goals), Benny Feilhaber (2 goals) and Sporting Kansas City (4-0-4 – W-D-L, 9 GF-8 GA) welcome Gyasi Zardes (4 goals), Giovanni dos Santos (3 goals) and the LA Galaxy (4-2-1, 17 GF-7 GA) to the Midwest for this Week 9 Western Conference showdown between two clubs who have a legitimate shot at winning the MLS Cup this season.

The L5 Meetings in this series (SKC 2-1 LA, LA 2-1 SKC, SKC 2-1 LA, LA 2-0 SKC, SKC 1-0 LA) has seen three straight 2-1 scorelines (and 'Overs') after two straight Clean Sheets by the Home sides. The Weather Forecast for Kansas City on Sunday night for this nationally televised match calls for Cloud conditions, temperatures of around 50° with NNE Winds of 10-15 mph and a Chance (30%) of Showers (80% Humidity). So, my Name is Nature, and I am Funky.

With Robbie Keane (2 goals) reportedly training with the team on Tuesday and maybe close to returning after missing 8 games with a Knee Injury and Mike Magee (3 goals) back in the fold – he scored a goal on 4 Shots and added 2 Crossing Passes last week – this is as dangerous an Offensive Roster as the MLS has seen and if there is a San Antonio Spurs (NBA) of the MLS, it is indeed this Bruce Arena-coached LA Galaxy side who showed how Prolific they can be on the Road last week scoring 5 goals in a 5-2 Win at Real Salt Lake.

Even though the Home team has W the L5 games in this Western Conference series and is unbeaten in the L7 (6-1-0), taking a chance of the visitors may be worth a shot here as they have to be feeling good after last week, have allowed the least goals in the MLS to date (7) and may be getting Irishman Keane back and he's always good for a goal as well as helping matches go 'Over' the Total, he's that good and expects to score that much.
