Friday night will feature Ronda Rousey making her long-awaited comeback by challenging current women's bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes for the title. Let's check out the UFC odds and play this card right.
Betting Favorites - Don't Lay the Juice
The UFC is filled with lopsided matches and you will find no greater preponderance of laying heavy lumber than in combat sports. Unlike team events where there is a point spread, as in football or basketball, the UFC odds makers dole out money lines on the fighters. Oftentimes playing the favorite can be either cost prohibitive (do you really want to risk $1000 to win just enough to pay for a casual night out?) or costly enough to make you wince if you lose.
Let's not forget, our UFC picks should not be filled exclusively with favorites as there is value on the big underdogs at times too. But ultimately we need to be able to put a few bucks on the big chalk if we want to and not lose our shirts if the underdog pulls a stunning upset. I would like to introduce you to the wonderful world of parlays. Stacking one bet on top of another, on top of another, all wrapped up inside one wager with no vig is the plan at UFC 207. Below we will highlight a few matches worth betting on and rolling into our parlay.
UFC 207 Parlay Palooza
Ronda Rousey (-135) - Talk all you want about Amanda Nunes but the reigning women's champ has nowhere near the world class chops off her opponent. In her last appearance, Rousey began to believe her press clippings that she could do no wrong and attempted to outbox one of the most decorated and venerated female boxers of all time in Holly Holm. It was an absurd strategy and one that had devastating consequences. She will come back tonight with a renewed vigor and will claim what is rightfully hers. Dominick Cruz (-225) - Cruz is the bantamweight king but he will be opposed by a young gun with devastating punching power in Cody Garbrandt. The 25-year-old with the amateur boxing background is 10-0 and has nine KO's to his credit. However, Friday night will be a huge step up in class. Cruz owns a three-inch reach advantage which will be used effectively to neutralize Garbrandt's fistic arsenal. Ultimately Cruz will take this fight to the mat and that will be that.
Johny Hendricks (-105) - The former welterweight king has lost his last two fights to a pair of highly skilled fighters in Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson and Kelvin Gastelum. He will never be the same fighter that took GSP to full five rounds only to lose by split decision but he is still among the best at 170 pounds. Neil Magny is a step down in class for Hendricks and he needs to stop the bleeding if he is to continue as a top tier fighter. This is a perfect fight for him to do just that.
