The countdown to this year’s Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita Park on Nov. 4 and 5 is on and to help get you ready for all the racing action Bovada Sportsbook has recently updated its futures odds for some of the biggest races over this two-day event including the $2 million Juvenile.

The Sentient Jet Juvenile is one of my favorite events in this two-day extravaganza of horse betting because it is the first time that many of the top and upcoming two-year thoroughbreds will get a chance to square off against one another in a quest to be the early favorite to win next year's Kentucky Derby. The following is a close look and some of the top favorites to win based on Bovada's Breeders' Cup futures.

2016 Breeders' Cup Sentient Jet Juvenile- Santa Anita Park

The Juvenile is a Grade 1 stakes race for two-year-old thoroughbreds with a total prize purse of $2 million. It will be contested on the dirt track at Santa Anita over a distance of 1 1/16 miles. Right now there are 13 entries listed as probable or possible in advance of this race on Saturday, Nov. 5.

Gormley +450

This two-year-old Kentucky-bred colt is well down the list when it comes to Horse Racing Nation's ratings for the top entries expected to run in the Juvenile, but he has attracted some bettor's eyes with a victory earlier this month in the Grade 1 Frontrunner Stakes at Santa Anita over the likes of Klimt and Straight Fire. Trained by John Shirreffs, he looked very comfortable competing at a distance of 1 1/16 miles and you can also add in a bit of home-track advantage with this big win.

Practical Joke +450

The other co-favorite on this futures list has the fifth-highest HRN rating in the projected field at 7.76 and he is currently ranked 113, which is also fifth on the list. Trained by Chad Brown, this two-year-old Kentucky-bred colt's biggest claim to fame is a first-place run in the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes on Oct. 8 at Belmont Park over a distance of 1 mile. He also won this year's Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga at a distance of seven furlongs so the question remains of how he will hold up over the longer distance of this race.

Klimt +500

Despite the second-place finish in this month's Frontrunner, this two-year-old Kentucky-bred colt remains at the top of the list for this year's Juvenile with an HRN rating of 8.52 while being ranked No. 17. Trained by Bob Baffert, he placed first in three previous races including the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes on Aug. 13 at Del Mar and the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity on Sept. 5 at shorter distances.

Not This Time +500

Trained by Dale Romans, this is another juvenile Kentucky-bred colt that is coming off a big win. He outran both Looking At Lee and Recruiting Ready on Sept. 17 in the Grade 3 Iroquois Stakes at Churchill Downs over a distance of 1 1/16 miles. This makes him an attractive pick at slightly longer odds that has already proven he can handle the added distance in this race. He comes in ranked No. 100 with a solid 7.8 HRN rating.

Syndergaard +600

This is one of two possible entries in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile by a famed trainer, Todd Pletcher. He has an HRN rating of 7.05 following a second-place finish in this month's Champagne Stakes and he also has two victories at Saratoga including a win in the non-graded Funny Cide Stakes on Aug. 26 at a distance of 6 ½ furlongs. This two-year-old colt was bred in New York and this will be his first venture out to a West Coast track.

Futures Odds for Other Notable Contenders

Moving down the futures list at Bovada for this year's Juvenile is Classic Empire at +650 followed by Three Rules with +900 betting odds to win this race. Theory in next on the list of horse picks at +1000 and both Straight Fire and Royal Copy round out the Top 10 at +1200 odds.
