Zlatan Ibrahimović celebrating after a goal

The Europa League used to be looked down on as an also-ran after the excitement of the Champions League but with clubs like Ajax, Inter Milan, Roma and Manchester United all involved this season, I suspect there are a lot more people than normal tuning into Thursday night and we are going to analyze the betting odds.

With 24 matches all taking place in the same evening there is no end of betting possibilities for those looking to risk a little in the hope of making a lot. Perhaps too many options. Nights like this can be overwhelming and sometimes it's best to quickly go through and throw out any matches you have little to no knowledge on.

That immediately rules out Konyaspor against Braga, Olympiakos Piraeus vs. FC Astana and a few others as I'm not happy to risk my money on a blind bet.

There are a few games though where there is more information available about the teams and they are perhaps a little (or a lot) more “mainstream”.

Manchester United vs Fenerbahce

Top of that particular list is Manchester United vs. Fenerbahce. Man Utd fans aren't particularly happy about being in the Europa League and missing out on the Champions League cost Luis Van Gaal his job but a summer of big spending and a new manager have given United fans hope that the good times are on their way back. They may not love this competition but the return of Robin Van Persie with Fenerbahce will add some spice to the game.

Bookies have United down as fairly solid favorites (average odds of 1.55) and with the players available to them you can definitely see the Red Devils picking up a win. The odds for that are too low for me, though (even at the 1.57 offered by both Pinnacle and William Hill) so I moved on to looking into the secondary markets which are where I found my bet for this match.

I think this will be a tight match with few goals and you can bet on Under 2.5 goals with Bookmaker at soccer odds of 2.05. That's where my money is going for this one.

Free Soccer Pick: Under 2.5 (-102)

Best Line Offered: at Bookmaker

Inter Milan vs Southampton FC

I'm also willing to risk some money on Southampton beating Inter Milan. Inter have struggled recently, their fans have turned on their captain and the pressure is already building on Frank de Boer despite the fact he hasn't been in the job long.

Southampton have shown that last season's form was not solely down to Ronald Koeman and despite another changeover in playing staff, they're looking good for another decent season. In some ways they've improved from 2015/16 as they've become more attacking, even if it has cost them in some cases.

I can't see Southampton sitting back in this one and they have enough about them to shock Inter Milan and their bigger name players. At odds of +200 at Bet365 that's a boat I'm boarding.

Free Soccer Pick: Southampton +200

Best Line Offered: at Bet365
