The final major European league gets underway this weekend as Bayern Munich face Werder Bremen in the German Bundesliga curtain raiser. Read on for valuable betting picks.
The seasons are already well underway in England, Spain, Italy and France and there are plenty of tempting betting options for football fans looking to build an accumulator this weekend.
Bayern is outrageously dominant in the Bundesliga and have won it four seasons in a row. Carlo Ancelotti has been brought in to replace Pep Guardiola as manager, and fans will be confident of his ability to make it five on the bounce after Bayern signed a centre back Mats Hummels from Borussia Dortmund and can now pair him with Germany teammate Jerome Boateng. The odds of -700 on them beating Werder Bremen are not particularly attractive, so to get more value you could give Bayern a handicap. They have beaten Bremen 5-0, 6-0, 5-2 and 6-1 in their last four home games against them, so going for Bayern -2 at +105 with Bet Bright looks a good option. Another option is Bayern Munich and over 3.5 goals, which is -117 with Bet Stars. Elsewhere last season's runners-up Dortmund face Mainz at home in their first game after a summer that saw them lose Hummels, Ilkay Gundogan, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, but bring in Andre Schurrle, Mario Goetze and some promising youngsters. Mainz acquitted themselves well last season and secured a top five spot, but were 28 points behind Dortmund, who are a better team and should win this game (-225 with Betway). Anytime goal scorer betting on Robert Lewandowski in the Bayern game and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also looks good.
In Spain, Barcelona should beat Athletic Bilbao at -200 as they have started the season in good form and seem more match fit than the rest courtesy of playing a Spanish Super Cup tie, which they battered Sevilla in. Real Madrid should steamroller Celta Vigo at -450 with various bookmakers. The best value bet looks to be on Atletico Madrid, who travel to Leganes after a shock 1-1 draw against Alaves in their opening game. Newly promoted Leganes caused a shock of their own in beating last year's sixth-placed team Celta Vigo in their first game in the top flight, but they should be worried about the visit of Atletico. Diego Simeone's men are mentally strong and should bounce back with a win (-150 with various bookmakers).
In England, top three Man City, Man Utd and Chelsea will all be confident of maintaining their 100% records. City has started the season in blistering form under new manager Pep Guardiola and destroyed a good Stoke team last weekend. They are -300 to beat West Ham at home, but to get more value it might be worth spreading your stake across a 2-1 win and 3-1 win for City as they have conceded once in both games so far and West Ham have scored once in both their games. It will be a tough game for Guardiola's side, but they should run out winners. Hull are in crisis as they are struggling to find enough players to make up a team as the owner tries to sell the club to Chinese investors and in the meantime is refusing to dip into the transfer market. Remarkably they have won both of their games so far, but Man Utd should put an end to all that and are -187.5 to win away at Hull. Finally, Chelsea are -333 to beat Burnley and should have little trouble doing that. Arsenal looks a good bet to record their first win of the season away at Watford (-133) and the same goes for defending champions Leicester City, who host Swansea and are -120 to win. Even more, value can be gained from backing Crystal Palace, buoyed by the club record signing of Christian Benteke, to record their first win of the season at home to Bournemouth (+137.5).
In Serie A Roma got off to a great start by thrashing Udinese 4-0 – continuing a wonderful winning run that dates back several months – and look a great bet to beat Cagliari, who slumped to a miserable 3-1 defeat at the hands of Genoa in their first game. Cagliari has home advantage but Roma is the superior team and have the wind firmly in their sails, so they should be able to win this one and the price looks very good (-110 with Bet365). Champions Juventus face a tricky away game at Lazio, but again they are the better side and should win this match, and again the price is very attractive (-117.6 with William Hill).
Finally in the French Ligue 1, arguably the best value bet is Lyon to win away at Dijon. Lyon has started the season in sensational form, with two wins in two games and Alexandre Lacazette in exceptional form up front. Dijon meanwhile has lost both of their first two games, which makes it surprising that the odds on Lyon aren't shorter. Boylesports has them at -115 to win this and many bookmakers are going close to that, so that looks an excellent bet. PSG are away at Monaco and they are also well priced at just -120, which looks very attractive considering how dominant they are in France.
