There Is Still Value In Rays vs. Twins For Your MLB Picks!

With both these teams already out of the post season we look to have an uninteresting matchup between the Twins and Rays. So where is the value to be found at?

The MLB Odds ave made the visiting Tampa Rays a -115 favorite like at Pinnacle Sports. Jake Odorizzi takes the mound for the Rays versus Ricky Nolasco for the Twins and for my MLB Pick I will take the visiting Rays. Odorizzi can be lights out and should come in with a lot of confidence after pitching tremendously his last appearance.

Minnesota Twins
Ricky Nolasco takes the mound for the Twins and comes in with a 5.28 ERA and 1.29 whip while the Twins are hitting just .238 as team. Nolasco has been mediocre this season and consistently gives up runs allowing ten in his last 13 innings pitched. He did have a decent outing at Seattle getting a quality start in his last game but the key word there is the preposition “at”.

When he has pitched in his home park this season he has struggled giving up 19 earned runs in 22 innings with batters hitting .330 against him. As well, the last two times he has faced the Rays he sports a 6.39 ERA with Tampa Bay hitting .292 against him. If the Rays get to him, and I think they will, they then get to face one of the worst bullpens in the American League in Minnesota who have a 4.49 ERA with batters hitting .281 against them. At the plate the Twins have also not been setting the world on fire averaging just 3.69 runs per game along with a team OPS of .686 ranking them 28th and 25th in the league respectively.

Tampa Bay Rays
Jake Odorizzi gets the start for Tampa Bay and comes in with a 3.36 ERA and 1.10 whip while coming off one of the best starts in his career. In that last outing he allowed just one hit in seven innings against the Yankees but unfortunately that hit was a two run homerun. He has been a bit off and on this season but has the capability to go deep into games and shut teams down. On the road he has been less than stellar but now getting a chance to face one of the worst offenses in the major leagues I expect him to thrive on the hill today. I am anticipating for him to have a quality start and for him to go deep into the game which I believe he will have to in order for the Rays to win considering their own bullpen is nothing to shout about. At the plate the Rays have been subpar most of the season hitting just .239 as a team. However, their statistics are better than the Twins across the board and they do rank second and ninth in the league in homeruns per game and slugging percentage respectively. This leads them to having a solid .737 OPS which ranks 11th in the league. Small price on the line but good value with the better pitcher and better hitting team statistically.
