MLB Picks Of The Day: Two Solid Favorites To Boost Your Bankroll

We'll have to keep close attention to poor plays by strong pitchers as we we're leaning towards two aces in our MLB Picks of the Day for today's installment.

San Diego Padres vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

Greinke is Back To Original Form
The first ace to flop this season was Zack Greinke (5-3, 4.59 ERA) as he was runner-up for the NL Cy Young Award last season and he decided he had enough of L.A. and took his "talents" to the desert in Arizona.

While that might not have been such a wise move as the ball flies in a warm climate such as Arizona, Greinke was rewarded handsomely with a huge contract. Sometimes when this happens, the payed player never lives up to expectations. Tonight, Greinke has a chance to get a win for his team and pad his statistics as the D'Backs host a week San Diego (20-29) offense.

Greinke hasn't been the Greinke of old, but in in 4 out of his last 5 starts, he's pitched at least 6 innings and has allowed 3 runs or less and the other game allowing 4 runs. That's a pretty good run for a guy that was getting knocked around and was 0-2 with a 9.90 ERA after his first 2 starts of the season. Even though the Padres are coming off of a 10-3 victory over Arizona, one game doesn't change anything and Arizona comes into this game with confidence that they have the far superior starter in Zack Greinke.

Streak Breaker
Speaking of San Diego's 10-3 victory over Arizona, it was their first win in their last 5 games. The Padres belted out 18 hits as Yangervis Solarte smashed 2 home runs and had 4 RBI's to go along with it. Matt Kemp was 3 for 5 hitting his 11th home run of the season and also scored 2 runs. Kemp is displaying power this season, but his .232 BA leaves a lot to be desired. This was once a triple crown candidate before he got injured for the Los Angeles Dodgers and really hasn't been the same player. Arizona with Greinke is the pick here. Take the heavy chalk.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. New York Mets

Maeda vs. Syndergaard
The Los Angeles Dodgers almost pulled off the comeback after having a 3 run deficit in the 1st inning last night against Jacob deGrom, but Curtis Granderson's walkoff home run in the 9th inning gave the Mets a 6-5 win and now New York is percentage points ahead of the Washington Nationals in the National League East Divison for 1st place. Tonight, Noah Syndergaard (5-2, 1.94 ERA), who has been the Mets best pitcher this season, will face Kenta Maeda (3-3, 3.29 ERA) and after a fast start in the MLB odds, Maeda has started to come back to earth a bit. The Mets have a nice opportunity tonight as the Dodgers will be looking for a little revenge.

David Wright
Many people thought that his career was over, but you can plainly see that David Wright still has a lot of pop left in his bat along with being a great team leader on a young team with a bunch of talent. For the season, Wright has 7 HR, 14 RBI and is batting only .226 in 136 at-bats, but in the last week alone, has 3 HR and 6 RBI. The Mets can surely use David Wright's bat in this lineup as Yoenis Cespedes has been carrying this offense on his back with 15 HR, 36 RBI, and a .295 BA. I think Wright is a "confidence player". He never adjusted to CitiField, but since the fences have been moved in, this gives him a chance to display his power again.

With all of that said, I like the Mets in this game because of the way that Noah Syndergaard has been pitching. In his last 2 starts, he's allowed just 1 earned run in 14 innings while striking out 21 batters and not allowing a single walk with his pinpoint control.
