MLB Betting: Updated NL Cy Young Odds

Monday, April 25, 2016 7:18 PM GMT

Nearly a month into the 2016 MLB season, sports books are shuffling the MLB odds for the Cy Young Award winner. Here's a look at updated priced for the NL winners.

NL Cy Young
Jake Arrieta is the 5-to-4 favorite to win in the NL Cy Young after tossing a no-hitter against the Reds last Thursday. Listed at odds of 6-to-1 prior to Opening Day, the Cubs ace is 4-0, 0.87 ERA with 26 strikeouts through 31 innings to begin the year, continuing his late-season dominance from last season. Amazingly, Arrieta has put together 24 consecutive regular-season quality starts, going 20-1 with a 0.86 ERA since last June. Last year's winner looks primed to snag the trophy again.

The Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw, oddsmakers' 2-to-1 favorite prior to the season's first pitch, inched up the board to 3-1. The southpaw, who won the award in three of the last five seasons, is 2-0, 1.50 ERA with 30 Ks in 30 frames—a much better start than last April when he went 1-1 with a 3.73 ERA.

The Mets' Noah Syndergaard is now third favorite at 8-to-1 odds after opening at 20-1. His 13.05 K/9 is second in the NL to the Phillies' rookie-sensation Vice Velasquez. Kenta Maeda, two-time Eiji Sawamura Award winner in Japan (Cy Young equivalent), is fourth on the board at 14-1. He's setting records in MLB: he's the first pitcher ever to allow just one run through his first four starts.

Thoughts
This looked to be a two-horse race from the get-go between Kershaw and Arrieta, and it's tough to see either one fone faltering—barring injury of course.? Syndeergard is a nice price (8-1), and carries a high-strikeout rate to pad his stats. Playing in the pitcher-friendly Citi Field, he'll need the Mets to provide ample run support to get the wins required to nab the award. Maeda is likely to cool off when batters face him a second time. Stephen Strasburg may be worth a look at 14-1. He's quietly dominated through his first four starts (3-0, 2.17 ERA) and holds the third lowest FIP in the NL behind Syndergaard and Jaime Garcia of the Cardinals. This wraps it up for the CY Young Odds Update.
