Chicago Cubs team celebrating

Coming off a 2-0 day, MLB games are becoming a bit more predictable as teams strive for excellence and a possible playoff spot in post season play. Let's keep the momentum going with our coveted MLB Picks of the Day for Thursday as we attempt to enter the month of September with a bang.

Miami Marlins vs N.Y. Mets

"deGrom is Da Man?"
I've been saying this all along as Mets starting pitcher, Jacob deGrom (7-7, 2.96 ERA), has been the anchor of this Mets pitching rotation, but we might have to "re-label" him after his last two starts. In the past deGrom's lack of wins could be blamed on lack of run support, but lately, he's just been awful. New York (69-64) and Miami (67-66) both need every win that they can get as they are attempting to chase down and capture the final wild-card spot in the National League, which is currently being held by the St. Louis Cardinals.

For the Mets, it's been a disappointing season overall as this is a team that was in the World Series last year. With injuries to Lucas Duda, David Wright, Matt Harvey, and now Neil Walker, the Mets have been "behind the 8 ball" all season long and most of it hasn't been their fault.

Getting Hot At the Right Time
He's a clubhouse favorite, but nobody could've expected Asdrubal Cabrera to go on the tear that he's been on as of late. In his last 23 at-bats, Cabrera has 4 HR, 8 RBI, and a .435 BA. Cabrera has really come on as of late and at the right time. This has worked well with Jose Reyes, who hit's before Cabrera in the lineup and has been frequently been able to get on base. Reyes is hitting .355 in his last 31 at-bats. He's also a threat to steal anytime that he's on base. Reyes is also hitting .324 against his former team and this 1-2 combination of Reyes and Cabrera has put the Mets right back in the thick of things where the wild card hunt is concerned.

For the Miami Marlins, this 5 games losing streak has seen them fall in the standings and they couldn't pick a worse time to start slumping. Christian Yelich (17 HR, 79 RBI, .306 BA) hasn't been hitting well as of late, but he own's the Mets, hitting .386 with 3 HR and 10 RBI in 57 at-bats. Will it be enough against deGrom?

San Francisco Giants vs CH Cubs

Riding the Cubs Victory Train
This is exactly what I've been doing as of late and the Cubbies, at costly prices, haven't disappointed me. The Chicago Cubs are by far the best team in baseball at 85-47 and are 15 games ahead of the St Louis Cardinals for the lead in the National League Central Division. They're on a one way ticket for the post-season and in control of their own destiny and possibly winning a World Series title for the 1st time in over 100 years.

Tonight, the value is a bit better when backing the Cubs as they face a very tough San Francisco Giants (72-60) team and starting pitcher and former Chicago Cub, Jeff Samardzija (11-9, 4.00 ERA. This will be one of the tougher games that the Cubs have had to play as of late as Samardzija has been red hot. In his last 4 starts ( 25 2/3 innings), Samardzija has allowed just 5 earned runs. This has translated to a 2-1 record and the San Francisco Giants must do a better job of providing run support for the long-haired former University of Notre Dame football star.

Kris Bryant
He was highly touted before entering the majors and Bryant is living up to the hype as he's having a monster season. As of late, he's been on fire, hitting .429 with 3 HR in his last 21 at-bats. Bryant is also hitting .333 with 2 HR and 5 RBI in 12 at-bats against the Giants this season. Overall for the season, Kris Bryant has 36 HR, 90 RBI, and a .307 BA. He get's on base more than 40% of the time and is a possible MVP-candidate in the National League. Look for Bryant to hit well as he's been successful against Samardzija in the past in a short sampling.

Chicago is on a roll and to get them at this price, even against Jeff Samardzija, is a great opportunity. Cubs are the MLB pick.
