Odubel Herrera Bat in Hand

Coming off of a monster night in which we won with the Braves and we also hit with the Padres, we look to carry over that momentum as teams scramble for a playoff position. It's our coveted MLB Picks of the Day for Tuesday.

Atlanta Braves vs New York Mets

Back To the Well
I know that it's difficult to have confidence in the Atlanta Braves (59-91), but we're looking for value and I like to ride the momentum of a team like I did yesterday and the Atlanta Braves have won 3 straight games and do have the firepower offensively to defeat the New York Mets (80-70) on any given day.

While the Mets are in the catbird's seat for a wild card spot, the Braves send a very capable Julio Teheran to the mound (5-10, 3.18 ERA) and in my eyes. this game could go either way. Will the Mets recover or will Atlanta provide another meaningless win for their team and a meaningful win to the betting public?

Where Julio Teheran is concerned, lack of run support has hurt him this season as this is a pitcher with a 3.18 ERA for the season and is a career 3.38 ERA. Teheran has also done the job by holding the opposition to a mere .220 BA. Facing a Mets squad, who has been hit by the injury bug and even their leader, Yoenis Cespedes, has just 436 at-bats for the season, the Mets are a very beatable baseball squad. It's arguable that the best two hitters in this game belong to the Atlanta Braves in Freddie Freeman and Matt Kemp.

Freddie Freeman
While Matt Kemp has been the hottest hitter on the team, Freeman has been the backbone of this squad and is considered a superstar in the MLB. After a 4 for 5 performance in which he had a home run, 3 RBI's and, 2 runs scored, Freeman is hitting .302 with 31 HR and 83 RBI for the season. Another attractive feature to Freeman's game is his ability to get on base. He has a .397 OBP%. Look for Freeman to continue his onslaught as the Braves look for a 4th straight win and are playing the spoiler role in this game.

Chicago White Sox at Philadelphia Phillies

Big Game Is Lame
There hasn't been a pitcher that's fallen off of the map more than James 'Big Game' Shields. He went from a star pitcher with the Kansas City Royals to a quick dropoff in San Diego, and then to even a further drop as a member of the Chicago White Sox. Both teams are just finishing out the season, but 'Which James Big Game Shields will we see in this game' will be the deciding factor in the outcome of this game?

Overall, Shields has 17 losses to his credit to go along with a 5.84 ERA, but with the Chicago White Sox, Shields has a mark of 3-10 with a 6.94 ERA. Along with these ugly numbers, Shields has an ERA of 7.27 on the road. The only thing that he can hang his hat on is that he's provided 2 quality outings in his last 2 starts. That said, Shields hasn't won a game in his last 9 starts. Why should we think that he'll fare any better here?

Odubel Herrera
The Philadelphia Phillies have power on the team such as Freddy Galvis and Maikel Franco, but their most effective and hottest hitter as of late has been centerfielder, Odubel Herrera. Herrera has 14 HR, 45 RBI's and a .361 OBP%. In his last 21 at bats, Herrera is hitting .476 with 1 HR , 3 RBI's, 2 doubles, and 6 runs. The Phillies have made great strides this season and I simply don't trust James Shields. Make Philadelphia your pick.
