New York Yankees vs. Cleveland Indians

No Reason To Believe N.Y. Should Win This Game
The city of Cleveland has had a renaissance with a championship in basketball and are currently in 1st place in the American League Central Division. The Tribe would certainly like to make it two championships and they have a legitimate chance at a World Series Title as they currently sit 6 1/2 games ahead of the Detroit Tigers and 7 1/2 game ahead of the Chicago White Sox. They're currently 51-33 in a tough division, winning 7 out of their las 10 games and I really don't remember the last time that they were this high on "the food chain?"; possibly in the late 1990's when they were competing with the New York Yankees for the American League and tonight, with a decisive pitching advantage, they face the Yankees once again and Cleveland are the decisive betting favorites in this ball game. Let's check the MLB odds now!

Ivan Nova
Cleveland has to be happy, knowing that their starter, Trevor Bauer (7-2, 3.02 ERA), who is an above average pitcher, pitching an outsanding season, faces a volatile Ivan Nova (5-5, 5.06 ERA), who has struggled and you just don't know what you're going to get from Nova.

In his last start, Nova showed a bit of life, but only went 5 innings as he allowed 1 runs on 4 hits. He only pitched 77 pitches in total and the Yankees need a starter to pitch 7 innings as Betances, Miller, and Chapman await. If New York can get into a game with a lead in the 7th inning, it's pretty much "light's out'.

Nova hasn't gotten a lot of run support from the New York offense, but in his last 6 starts, he's 2-2 and has allowed 24 runs on 41 hits in 31 1/3 innings. Allowing 5 runs just isn't going to cut it, especially against a frontrunner such as Cleveland.

Nova also carries a 6.17 ERA on the road. A good pitcher needs to be able to pitch in enemy territory.

Francisco Lindor
He's certainly the new rising star on this team and in the American League as it's difficult to find a quality shortstop to fill the position.

For the season, Lindor has 10 HR, 43 RBI, .299 BA, and 13 SB. What I like most about this kid is he comes up with timely hits. There are players like Ichiro who get hits and there are players such as Lindor who get hits when the game is on the line. Currently, Francisco Lindor is hitting .338 at home and that has to make Cleveland even more confident. Look for a Cleveland win as they have the better starting pitching and have been the hotter team as of late.

Detroit Tigers vs. Toronto Blue Jays

Drew Hutchinson Gets the Start
That really is the key to this game for the Detroit Tigers, who are coming off of a win over the Indians but trail them and have to make up gound and want to finish up on a positive note before the All-Star Break. I remember last season when Hutchinson was hurrendous on the road, pitching to an estimated 8.00 ERA on the road, but luckily for him, this game is in Toronto. However, this is only Hutchinson's 2nd start of the season and 3rd start overall. Thus far, he has a 5.40 as manager,John Gibbons, put him in relief duty and he blew the save.

More on Hutchinson
I'm not going to judge him off of a spot that the manager put him in and where he doesn't belong. Gibbons realized that this is a starting pitcher as his 30-21 career record indicates. However, I do have a lot of questions about Hutchinson as he got a lot of wins in the past from run support and not quality pitching. He's facing the likes of Miguel Cabrera (18 HR, 53 RBI, .298 BA), Victor Martinez (16 HR, 51 RBI, .318 BA), and Ian Kinsler (16 HR, 52 RBI, .293 BA). While Miggy hasn't been Miggy for a couple of years, he's still better than 90% of the hitters in baseball and he's the best overall player in the last decade in the majors.

Point being, Drew Hutchinson needs to put forth his best and he'll also be facing Justin Verlander (8-6, 4.11 ERA). JV has had an up and down season, but he's stll an above average pitcher and with an offense such as the one that the Detroit Tigers possesses, that's all that a team needs.

Detroit's coming off of a monster 12-2 win over Cleveland in their last game and this game should be competitive as Toronto has some big boppers in Josh Donaldson and the MLB's leading RBI producer in Edwin Encarnacion. Off of starting pitching alone, I give the Tigers the edge in this game for the sharp MLB pick.
