Free MLB Pick: Odorizzi & Rays Have Great Value Sunday vs. Yankees

Sunday, May 29, 2016 12:00 PM GMT

Odds makers have this Yankees vs. Rays game close to a pick. Is there better value backing Tampa Bay to win two in a row or will the Yankees get some revenge today?

The MLB Odds have made this game around a pick with some good odds taking Tampa Bay at -103 at Pinnacle sports. For my MLB Pick today I'm going to take Tampa Bay to beat the Yankees for the second time in two days. Starter Jake Odorizzi is very tough at home and is very familiar with this Yankee team.

New York Yankees
Nathan Eovaldi takes the mound for New York and comes in with a 3.95 ERA and 1.15 whip but the Yankees rank in the bottom of the league in most offensive categories. Eovaldi has pitched well recently with the Yankees winning his last four starts as he has allowed just six earned runs in his last 25 innings.

He has also pitched well on the road this season with batters hitting just .217 against him but his ERA is still a touch over 4.00 when he travels. Against Tampa Bay in the last few seasons he's only seen them a couple of times but they have hit him pretty hard garnering seven earned runs in 12 innings.

At the plate the Yankees have really struggled this season and they should do so again today against a solid home pitcher. Currently they rank 23rd in runs per game, 25th in slugging percentage, and are hitting .236 which ranks 24th in the major leagues. The only positive note is that they don't strike out that much but today they are facing a pitcher who gets a lot of ground balls and fly ball outs.

Tampa Bay Rays
Jake Odorizzi starts for Tampa Bay and comes in with a 3.46 ERA and 1.21 whip but the Rays are hitting just .236 as a team. That batting average actually is tied with the New York Yankees but Tampa Bay does average more runs per game and have a much higher slugging percentage at .427 which ranks 10th in the major leagues.

That also puts them having a solid OPS of .734 which ranks 11th in the major leagues. Tampa Bay also ranks first in home runs per games but with that type of power also comes a lot of strikeouts as they rank 28th in the major leagues averaging 9.41 per game. Odorizzi is a very good home pitcher and I look for him to have a stellar outing this afternoon as he comes into this game with a home ERA of 2.51 and batters hitting just .226 against him.

Although he has not pitched very well against the Yankees particularly over the last three seasons, at home in that same period of time he has a 2.89 ERA with batters hitting just .212 against him. Hopefully the familiarity with New York will help him as he has faced the Yankees more than any other team, nine times, the last three years. He is a completely different monster at home and I look for him to keep the Yankees in check.
