Fading Royals' Young Out At Busch Against Cardinals

Thursday, June 30, 2016 6:33 PM GMT

Cardinals might catch a break tonight as they face the KC Royals' Chris Young as he has been struggling lately. Our handicapper provides his Free MLB Pick on tonight's game.

Kansas City Royals vs. St. Louis Cardinals.
The St. Louis Cardinals host the Kansas City Royals for the final game of a four-game series. The interleague matchup was first in Kansas City for two games where the two teams split a game a piece, then on to St. Louis, where the Royals took last night's close, fought extra inning affair 3-2. The St. Louis Cardinals are having a ton of trouble winning games in Busch, overall the Cardinals are only 15-22 when playing at home this year. The Royals have equally struggled on the road only going 14-25 YTD. Tonight's pitching matchup pins two starters that have struggled of late in Chris Young for the Royals and Mike Leake for the Cardinals. Each pitcher will have a tough time against two lineups that have been heating up the last couple weeks, although one of them profiles a bit better at Bush Stadium considering the outside elements.

The Royals send Chris Young the ageless on to the hill tonight and he has been surprisingly decent up to this year. His peripheral numbers have finally caught up to him in 2016, teams have hit him harder and found ways on base a lot easier this year. Young has only made it to the fifth inning once his last six starts. He has also had a tough time with his control issuing 12 free passes in his last 5 games, keep in mind that is in only just over 20 innings pitched in that time span. The former Princeton standout will be facing a Cardinals lineup that ranks top 10 in walks per game, averaging 3.39 per game and coming off of working four walks in last night's game. The 37-year-old has also had a tough time with fly balls as he has giving up a double-digit total of fly balls in three of his last four starts and the wind is blowing out at 10 mph in Bush tonight, so keeping the ball out of the cheap seats will likely be an uphill climb for Young.

Mike Leake gets the start for St. Louis as he is coming off a poor outing as he lasted a season-low 3 1/3 innings while giving up four earned runs and nine hits in a loss to Seattle on Saturday. He had won five of six decisions prior to last time out. The former Arizona State Sun Devil was a former first rounder, 8th pick of the 2009 draft. His stuff is there but has not been able to put it together for a stretch of time at the highest level like some would have hoped. He has shown signs of reaching his potential of late, for instance, he has only issued 2 free passes his last four starts and never let up more than 2 walks in his last 14 starts. Only letting up 7, 8, 7 total of fly balls his last 3 starts and his last two starts throwing under 90 pitches. Key info to keep in mind while checking those MLB Odds

The Royals bullpen is one of the best in baseball, posting a 1.18 WHIP to this point in the season. With this in mind, my free MLB pick will be a wager on the St. Louis Cardinals on the first 5 inning runline
