Chalk & Average Pitching Have Value In Our MLB Picks Of The Day

Saturday, June 25, 2016 4:00 PM GMT

With average pitching this Saturday in the MLB, there's still value. There's a bit of heavy chalk in the late games. See our MLB Picks of the Day as the safest "avenue to explore".

Philadelphia Phillies vs San Francisco Giants
I don't see a ton of reliability where pitching is concerned except for Madison Bumgarner (8-3 ,1.85 ERA) of the Giants as he faces a Philadelphia Phillies (31-44) squad which is starting to tail off after a fine start to the season, losing 9 out of their last 10 games. Basically, the Phillies, who looked like a new and improved squad, had us fooled and the team that we initially expected is starting to show their true colors.

Where the Giants are concerned, the San Francisco Giants are on top of the world or National League West Division at 48-27. The Giants have won 9 out of their last 10 games and have a massive 7 game lead over the 2nd place Los Angeles Dodgers. While any team can win at any time, this game is basically a forgone conclusion as the Giants send one of their two best pitchers to the mound in Bumgarner and all of the momentum is in their favor. The only question is, are you willing to lay such a massive amount of juice?

Brandon Belt and Buster Posey
This team has basically played small ball as Brandon Belt leads the team in home runs with 10 and is hitting .305 with a very appealing .410 OBP%. Belt hasn't been smashing dingers left and right, but you can basically say that Belt has been "belting" the baseball.

In the month of June, Brandon Belt is hitting 5 HR, 13 RBI, and a .342 BA. While Hunter Pence is out for an extended period of time, Brandon Belt has need some help offensively and Buster Posey, who had an MVP-like season last year, has finally started to wake up.

Posey has finally raised his batting average to that elusive .280 mark. Posey , who has been tearing the cover off of the ball as of late, has hit a more than solid .300 in the month of June, but his power hasn't been there as he possesses a mere homer during the month.

He's the best player on this team, the leader of this team offensively, won World Series before, and need's to go on a power surge for this Giants team to have any chance against a team such as the Chicago Cubs down the road. For now and in a game like this, Posey just needs to keep contributing as the Fightin Phils aren't "Fightin" lately; they're freefalling and living up to the low expectations that people expected of them.

Make this a small bet due to the juice the MLB Odds demand, but the Giants are still the play with no resistance at home.

New York Mets vs Atlanta Braves
Pitcher Jacob deGrom ( 3-4, 2.96 ERA) has went through the roughest patch of his major league career thus far. I, personally feel that with the issues of his newborn having issues, this could possibly have taken deGrom off of his game. Also, an addition to the family when the Mets are at home, does affect any human beings "night schedule" and thinking out of the realm of baseball for a minute, this could possibly have lead to a dropoff in deGrom's production. It also doesn't help the deGrom's cause or even Matt Harvey's in the fact that the Mets offense has sometimes let these two pitchers down with a lack of run support.

deGrom's last 4 outings have been just sick as the Mets offense has produced a total of 2 runs for the lanky right-hander. Under no circumstances will a pitcher win a game with this kind of production. New York has been playing without David Wright and Lucas Duda, but this team can't just rely on Yoenis Cespedes as Cespedes leads the Mets in almost every offensive statistical category.

Getting Hot Again
Cespedes has had no option as his teammates have produced very little. Have you seen Michael Conforto's numbers lately? For the season, Cespedes has 18 HR, 44 RBI, .288 BA. In the month of June, he's perfromed at a high level with a .323 BA and 3 HR and 7 RBI. The problem is the RBI's as he' virtually had nobody to knock in.

One good sign for the Mets offense is that they managed to score 8 runs yesterday in an 8-6 victory over the lowly Atlanta Braves. The Braves are a pathetic 10-28 at Turner Field.

In Friday night's game, the Mets only managed 8 hits on their 8 runs, but James Loney came through as the hero as he was a perfect 3 for 3 with 1 HR , 3 RBI, and 3 runs scored. If Loney can return to his old form of a couple of years ago with Tampa Bay, this will help the Mets immensely. For our MLB Picks, the Braves are simply no match for the Mets and Jacob deGrom.
