Cash In These Two MLB Picks of the Day For Thursday

Thursday, June 16, 2016 3:00 PM GMT

Let's take an in-depth look at the tonight's baseball slate and MLB Odds, and look to cash in some MLB Picks going into the weekend series. Join in and share the profit.

Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals
I went for the value last night as the Tigers were a huge underdog as Chris Sale pitched for the White Sox. We almost pulled it off, but Chicago scored a couple of late inning runs and won 5-3. This was okay as you have to take calculated chances and beat the chalk and Chris Sale had been pitching poorly and we broke even for the day with our MLB Picks.

Tonight is a different story as Justin Verlander (6-5, 3.77) is pitching and he's been red hot as of late. That said, the Tigers are facing a Kansas City Royals team (35-30) which has won 5 straight game after losing 5 straight. You don't get the value that you got in yesterday's game as the Tigers are a -107 favorite on the MLB Odds, but their tremendous combination of pitching and hitting can't be denied.

Justin Verlander
"JV" has looked like the "JV" of old and in order for the Detroit Tigers to have a chance at the post-season, they need Verlander to be the pitcher that he once was that mowed down every opponent and would stay in the game to its entirety.

We know that JV has the offense to back him up as he square off against Danny Duffy (2-1, 2.94 ERA) and the Defending World Series Champion Kansas City Royals. This will be no cakewalk, but Verlander has pitched so well, the Tigers, who are just 33-32 ,are a -107 betting favorite and I'll take that any day of the week the way that JV has gotten his swag back.

Since May 8th, Verlander has made 7 starts while allowing just 11 earned runs on 30 hits in 56 1/3 innings. He's also struck out 57 batters during that period of time He's also held opposing hitters to just a .215 batting average for the entire this season. When he takes the mound, from watching Tigers games, you can just see the look of confidence is back on his face and that's all that it will take here to win as he has Miguel Cabrera, J.D, Marinez, Ian Kinsler, and Victor Martinez backing him

From a Kansas City Royals perspective, they've dominated at Kaufman Stadium, going an amazing 22-7 despite their overall record and Verlander has pitched better at Commerica Park. This game should be very competitive, but the schedule is limited and I'm siding with Detroit an "JV".

Pittsburgh Pirates at New York Mets
Now, that we know that David Wright will need surgery, New York's balloon has deflated a bit as the captain had been playing very well, but this is still an elite baseball team despite their 35-29 record. The Mets really need to kick it into gear as the Washington Nationals have managed to separate themselves with New York by 5 games. While it's early in the season, New York doesn't want to fall too far behind.

Tonight, they face a Pittsburgh Pirates team that has had their number, but the Pirates have been slumping, winners of just 3 out of their last 10 games. This is perfect timing for the ageless Bartolo Colon (5-3, 3.08 ERA) to pick up a victory in a pitching matchup against Juan Nicasio (5-5, 5.34 ERA) in which Colon has a major advantage. New York also knows that the Nats have an easy matchup against San Diego tonight, therefore it's imperative that the Mets win tonight's game.

We take a look at Juan Nicasio and he's coming off of a terrible outing against the St. Louis Cardinals in which he went just 1 inning and gave up 6 runs and 4 hits in a loss. Overall on the road, Nicasio has a 6.20 ERA and has shown poor control with 13 walks and 21 strikeouts in 24 2/3 inning pitched. Even though the Mets are short-handed and the Pirates have outstanding hitters such as Starling Marte (6 HR, 25 RBI, .332 BA , 19 SB), there's a little pressure taken off of New York in this game.

Big WIn At CitiFIeld
The Mets are coing off of an 11-2 victory over the Bucs last night as Noah Syndergaard was a beast and New York had a season high 19 hits in this game. Yoenis Cespedes was 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored, but Wilmer Flores was the star of the game. Flores was 2 for 5 with a home run, and 4 runs batted in. This was a much needed run and hit output for the Mets who tend to rely on their pitching to win games. Look for Bartolo Colon to play well here and he should get some run support.
