Picks Of The Day

With the exception of a couple of heavy betting favorites, today's slate is very well balanced; one in which we can find value. Here are your exclusive MLB Picks of the Day.

Boston Red Sox vs Tampa Bay Rays

Ride the BoSox
In another lopsided matchup, the Boston Red Sox (71-54) my MLB pick here as they face the bottom-feeding Tampa Bay Rays. Last night, the Rays gave the Red Sox a run for their money as Chris Archer was pitching, but tonight, Rick Porcello (17-3, 3.22 ERA) is starting for Boston and he's a sure thing for a 20 win season and having a career year. Tampa Bay simply doesn't have the firepower offensively to compete with a team such as Boston.

The Wins Keep Coming
Porcello hasn't had a Clayton Kershaw-like season, but he consistent allows 2 to 3 runs every game and he's backed by a strong Boston offense and that's a winning combination.

Porcello has provided 9 out of 10 quality starts in his last 10 starts. In his last 5 starts, he's allowed 9 runs on 26 hits in 39 innings. He's making it less tasking on the Boston bullpen by going deep into games and not having that one bad inning that many pitchers have that will spoil a start. Porcello has also held the opposition to a .232 batting average and most of the time, that will keep any pitcher and any team in the ball game. In my opinion, he's far from an elite pitcher, but he's played his role perfectly this year and deserves a look where the AL Cy Young Award is concerned.

Boston has won 10 out of their last 12 games and is in a dead tie for 1st place in the American League East Division lead with Toronto, therefore this game is very important and Boston won't take Tampa Bay lightly.

Mookie Betts
This is an up and coming star that's having a banner year. What makes Betts so special is that he can display a massive amount of power, get the necessary hits that seem to drop in, and he can play outstanding defense with a very strong and accurate arm for a small man. For the season, Betts is hitting .313 with 28 HR and 89 RBI. It's the little things that he does such as a throw to get a runner, trying to extend a double in a triple, out. These are the types of plays that allow Boston to win as they did yesterday, 2-1.

New York Mets vs St. Louis Cardinals

"deGrom is Da Man"
Whether he has one poor outing or not, I always feel confident backing Mets starter, Jacob deGrom (7-6, 2.73 ERA). Despite the lack of wins due to run support, deGrom is super-consistent and will always give the bettor a chance to win as he's the definition of a silent competitor. In fact, despite the 7 wins, he's one of the best pitchers in baseball and that immediately provides the New York Mets (63-62), who are coming off of two consecutive wins and are attempting to close in on a wild card spot, a great chance to beat teams such as St. Louis, who possess a better record than the Mets.

Resilience
Due to the rash of injuries, you don't know where the Mets offense is going to come from, but this team has held strong. A good example of this is last night's game in which the Mets defeated the Cardinals 7-4. New York got out to an early 3-0 lead, but starter, Jonathan Niese, had to be taken out of the ballgame due to injury. The Cards immediately came back to tie the ball game up, but the resilience of the Mets won out in the end.

Wilmer Flores and Justin Ruggiano both went deep for the Amazin's. Jose Reyes and Asdrubal Cabrera both pitched in with 3 hits apiece. Although Yoenis Cespedes (25 HR, 64 RBI, .295 BA) is the star of this team, he's injury prone and New York needs for their supporting cast to step up like they did in this game.

Jacob deGrom is coming off of a really rough outing in a loss against the San Francisco Giants. Before this start, he was unhittable. Look for a bounce back effort from the long-haired, lanky, right-hander.
