South Florida Bulls Player Looks On To The Field

Joe Gavazzi's College Football Picks are now 22-13 ATS (63%) with a plethora of winners for this week. For this article, he analyzes and makes a ruling on whether South Florida is faux or fo' real.

A new addition to this year's CFB analysis is a group of games entitled FAUX OR FO'REAL. In this group of games, I look to solve the handicapper's conundrum of whether a team will play with negative or positive momentum or whether they will letdown or bounce back. In other words, is their most recent game or group of games FAUX or FO'REAL? Today's team in question is the S. Florida Bulls.

Emerging from the nadir of their discontent, S. Florida posted a record of 8-5 SU, 9-3 ATS last season. It included a 7-1 SU ATS run to end the regular season. Put that together with this year's 3-0 SU ATS start to the season and you have a nice 10-2 ATS run for 4th year HC Taggart and his Bulls. Improvement has come on both sides of the ball, when 2015 saw S. Florida improve their offensive output by 17 PPG and 137 yards. The defense also showed better numbers. After 3 games this year, the offense was again clicking at 50 PPG, while the defense was allowing just 18 PPG. Last week, however, they met Florida St. at the wrong time. With the Seminoles seething from their 63-20 blasting by Louisville the previous week, FSU responded by returning the favor to USF, putting up 647 yards in a 55-35 win. Thus, the question becomes FAUX OR FO'REAL? There is little doubt in the mind of this handicapper that the Bulls bounce back from that blasting last week (much like Florida St. did to them). Substantiating my case is the record of Taggart, whose teams on the road at W. Kentucky and S. Florida, are 23-5 ATS, including 7-1 ATS as road chalk.

Last week, I faded Cincinnati as double-digit favorite in their rivalry game against quickly improving, Miami, OH. Without QB Moore at the controls, the Bearcats were lucky to win that game. This week, whether QB Moore returns, last week's replacement QB Trail takes the helm or whether it is veteran Gunner Kiel as signal caller who takes the controls, this week it is Cincinnati (in the same role as small home dog as USF last week), who is in the wrong place at the wrong time. The Bulls bounce back proving they are FO REAL!
