SMU Mustangs

Two highly recruited senior QB's should have no issue carving up the over matched opposing deffenses in Denton Texas. Everybody gets to score! Read our capper's NCAAF Pick.

SMU Mustangs vs North Texas Mean Green

The SMU Mustangs ( -9.5 across NCAAF Odds board) will make the 40-mile road trip north to play rival North Texas. The Mean Green and the Mustangs combined for just 3 wins last year, but both have exciting up and coming head coaches with very successful offensive resumes. Head coaches who look to push the pace and are not afraid to air it out offensively. This close proximity rivalry in northern Texas should be a showcase of offensive fireworks.

The former Texas A&M quarterback Matt Davis leads SMU's offense. He is a dynamic duel threat QB that started off last year very promising and ended the year with over 2,200 yards passing and 761 yards on the ground. He is the exact profile that gave the North Texas defense fits. The Mean Green defense was not so mean last year, actually one of the worst defenses in the nation. UNT gave up a school record over 6,000 yards last year, including just short of 3,000 rush yards alone. This year's UNT defense is projected to be improved in the secondary, but the defensive line still lacks talent and depth. When trying to defend against a duel threat QB like Matt Davis, when your lacking depth and talent up front makes for a long night for defensive coordinator Mike Ekeler.

Seth Littrell will make his head coaching debut as he takes the helm at North Texas. Littrell comes over from UNC, before he was in Chapel Hill he was with pass happy up-tempo offenses such as Texas Tech, Arizona and Indiana. Littrell brings in his former Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell, who comes over from another explosive offensive approach in Washington State. This offense will be very different from last year's squad. UNT brings in Alabama transfer Alex Morris who is a fifth-year senior to lead the offense. They will also get the opportunity to open at home against a SMU defense that gave up 45.7 points per game while surrendering 502.2 yards per game.

This is going to be a barn burner in Denton Texas Saturday night. Two offenses that are going to push the pace, with senior quarterbacks and proven successful offensive minds. The defenses are the Achilles heel for both squads and will be hard pressed to get much pressure on the opposing QB. I strongly recommend a total wager on the over of 68.5.*
