Western Michigan is only one of two undefeated teams in the nation. Friday night they take on their MAC rivals from Toledo and below we analyze which team is the one to back in our college football picks.

Toledo Rockets vs Western Michigan Broncos

One of the pitfalls of playing in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) is that no matter how good your record, the chances of getting an invitation to the College Football Playoff are slim and none - and Slim just left town. Thus, the Western Michigan Broncos trot out their 11-0 mark to meet the Toledo Rockets in front of what will assuredly be a rabid crowd at Waldo Stadium in Kalamazoo.

Though the spotlight is clearly on the Broncos and their undefeated season, the Toledo Rockets may be getting short shrift as a serious contender for MAC supremacy. Toledo will travel to Kalamazoo with a 6-1 conference record and a 9-2 overall mark. Should the Rockets upset the Broncos then both would be tied in the MAC - West with a 7-1 conference record. This is the last regular season game of the season for both teams and the tie would be broken by the head-to-head record. In the event, Toledo prevails Friday night then they, and not Western Michigan, would be earning their way to the MAC Championship game against either Ohio University or Miami of Ohio coming out of the MAC - East.

Western Michigan stunned the then No. 24 ranked Rockets in Toledo last season by the score of 35-30. The Rockets were already looking past their final regular season matchup with a view towards a date in the MAC Championship game. Toledo's loss sent Northern Illinois in their stead and the Rockets are still wincing from the loss. In last season's showdown the Rockets were installed as 7 ½ point home favorites by the college football odds makers but this season they are getting a nine-point head start as road dogs.

Consider that Toledo has lost only two games this season by a combined seven points. They were three-point road underdogs to BYU and lost that game 55-53 but narrowly covered the number. They then lost 31-26 at home to MAC rival Ohio. In that game, all who laid the 20 points with Toledo in their college football picks knew the cover was blown early but even they never expected Toledo to lose outright. That was one terrible game for Toledo in an entire season of success. Rockets QB Logan Woodside leads a passing attack that is ranked 7th in the nation and though their defense is not quite on par with Western Michigan's, I believe Toledo could win this game outright. Taking the points is a no-brainer here.
