The Ohio St. Buckeyes travel to Michigan St. for this Noon ET kickoff as televised by ESPN. It is clearly a battle of two teams headed opposite directions, and capper Joe Gavazzi has free NCAAF Pick for this game.

Ohio St. (-22) at Michigan St. Noon ET ESPN

In short, Ohio St. wins this one big!

It was at this time last season that Michigan St. was opening the season 12-1 SU, culminating with a Big 10 playoff victory vs. Iowa. Then, reality struck for the Spartans in a 38-0 playoff loss to Alabama. With just 9 RS, the Spartans have not been the same since! The season-opening win vs. Furman was lethargic. In hindsight, the game 2 win over a 4-6 SU Notre Dame team was not as originally thought to be. But, the start of the Big 10 season began a downward spiral of 0-7 SU, 1-6 ATS. The bleeding stopped last week, when the Spartans took out a year of frustration with a 49-0 home victory against Rutgers. It is the hope of Spartan faithful that the confidence-building win keys late season momentum in a LHG scenario which will be akin to the Spartan's Bowl game. This year's demise, however, has been part of an overall picture that left the Spartans a bit overpriced, following their previous 3-year run of 36-5 SU. For, they are now on negative slides of 8-16 and 3-8 ATS. What goes up, must come down! There are positives for Michigan St. As under 10th year HC Dantonio, they are recently 12-2 ATS as underdog, including 2-0 ATS this season against Notre Dame and Michigan. They also have a strong recent history against Ohio St. as Dantonio is 2-1 SU ATS in the last 3 years against Ohio St.'s Urban Meyer.

That includes Ohio St's 17-14 loss in this matchup last season, when the Buckeyes lost the game because of two critical TOs, despite outgaining Michigan St. 294-132. That alone would be enough motivation for Meyer and the Buckeyes. But, the real edge the Buckeyes will bring to this game is their motivation for a post-season playoff appearance. In Tuesday night's recently released playoff standings, Ohio St. is No. 2 in the land, trailing only Alabama for the top spot. But, they are closely followed by Michigan, Clemson, Louisville and Washington, all of whom also have just 1 defeat. You can throw a blanket over the ratings of these 5 teams. Following the Buckeyes' improbable loss at Penn St. (October 22nd), they have rebounded smartly. In the last 2 weeks, they have slaughtered Nebraska (62-3) with a 590-204 yardage edge. Last week, the followed it up by the same score (62-3), again pounding Maryland in the yardage column 581-176. In both games, they outrushed their foe by a greater than 3 to 1 margin and had a balanced attack, rushing for at least 238 yards and passing for at least 328 yards. In so doing, they covered the spread in those games by a whopping 73 points. There is the obvious look-ahead to their game against Michigan next week. But, it is difficult to not favor this late-season momentum of Ohio St., backed by their revenge motive, for a blowout victory against Michigan St., who could well toss the towel once the scoreboard gets out of hand.
