November is a crazy time of year, whether you are betting college football or just a fan of the sport. This month, more than any other, it is time to be on - Upset Alert - because they come out nowhere.
Doug's Record For These Upset Plays (15-13-1 ATS)
While some are easier to identify than others, what you most often find is the teams that have gotten better as the season progressed play very well at this juncture and those who peaked or because of injury are stuck in neutral or going backwards will falter.
Brand Name SEC Favorites Should Beware
Florida and Georgia are big time college football programs and both are on the road this week after playing each other. The Gators travel to Arkansas and are in a great position to win the SEC East. But Arkansas is no pushover, taking Texas A&M into the late stages of the third quarter before a couple big plays hurt them and scoring 30 against Alabama's defense. Though the Florida defense is sensational, the Gators offense is run of the mill and Razorbacks have had two weeks to think about embarrassing loss to Auburn. For college football picks, take a look at the Hogs.
Georgia's problems stem from the fact both lines are not very good, especially compared to previous standards. The Bulldogs have lost four of five and are only two-point favorites at Kentucky. The Wildcats, on the other hand, are hot, winners of three in a row and they are 5-1 SU and ATS in last six. With an explosive running game and the Dawgs in the doldrums, Kentucky can definitely win this contest.
How 'Bout Them Cowboys
The words might be from Jimmy Johnson, former Dallas Cowboys head coach, but most probably do not recall he was the head coach at Oklahoma State from 1979-83. These Cowboys from Stillwater have won four in a row and are looking like the team I choose at BetOnline for OVER 8.5 on season wins. Okie State should be 7-1 except for officials error that cost them Central Michigan last second loss and they have more than enough offense to knock off Kansas State, who is really limited if they cannot run the ball. Oklahoma State wins at the Little Apple.
Watch Out Wisconsin!
With what the Badgers have been through schedule-wise, they could be forgiven for finally being able to exhale. Having defeated three Top 10 teams and taken two others to the very last drive of the game in Michigan and Ohio State, Northwestern could a letdown spot. However, since 0-2 start, the Wildcats are 5-1 ATS with four wins and they to almost upset the Buckeyes and will be more than ready for Bucky Badger. Wisconsin is just 3-6 and 1-8 ATS in recent visits Ryan Field. Northwestern has a solid passing offense with QB Clayton Thorson and given it is read and react attack, they could slow Wisconsin pass rush and put up enough points for the upset.
