A reader favorite on the pages of my Pointspread Prognosis is the Perception/Reality Game. With today’s victory by Stanford, these NCAAF Picks will ascend to over 60% winners again this season.

Colorado vs Stanford (-2) 3:00 ET

In a turnaround season for each of these teams, the Colorado Buffaloes visit the Stanford Cardinal. The Buffs are now in their 4thyear under HC MacIntyre. He was hired to come to Boulder, after the success he had with his immediate turnaround of the San Jose program. It has been a bit more difficult for his Buffaloes. In the previous 3 years, his Buffs were 10-27 SU, including 2-25 SU in PAC 12 play. This year, however, with 18 RS (virtually all his own recruits), Colorado has become the pointspread darling of the nation.

There have been road losses at quality opponents, Michigan and USC, but the pointspread log has remained spotless at 7-0 ATS. In doing so, they have covered by a combined 94 points. Going back to last season, the run is now 12-2 ATS, including 4-0 ATS as underdog. Even when starting QB Liufau went out of the lineup, his replacement (QB Montez) confidently stepped in to seamlessly guide the Buffs' attack. This week, instead of handicapping the Colorado/Stanford game, pointspread bettors across the nation will simply blindly follow the 7-0 ATS run of the Buffs, not taking into account the huge (nearly 3 TDs) pointspread adjustment from where this line would have been opening this week.

An equal part of that adjustment has come because a Stanford team, long among the standard bearers of the PAC 12, is suffering what at this time appears to be a potential down season. With a 44-6 loss at Washington, followed by a 42-16 home loss to Washington St., the Cardinal is now 4-2 SU for the season, just 2-2 SU in PAC 12 action. Yet, with parity the rule in the PAC 12 season and a remaining slate of games in which they will most likely be favored in every contest, there is still ample hope for the Stanford season.

I normally do not recommend playing a team the week after an upset of Notre Dame in South Bend, especially if they are favored in today's game, but the plight of the Irish this season and the underperformance of Stanford this year, with hope still ahead, means this team will give full attention to an over performing Colorado team. Heisman hopeful, RB McCaffrey who missed last week's game at Notre Dame (leg), is expected to return to today, though these reports remain unsubstantiated. With him in the lineup, this is an incredible value price on a Stanford team with much to prove. I invite you to put the College Football ODDS in your favor and join me in my College Football PICK on Stanford this afternoon.
