The Last time these two met Florida State was destroyed. The Seminoles will get revenge tonight, as over confidence has proven to be the Tar Heels biggest downfalls.
The Florida State
Seminoles were laughed off the court on Super Bowl Sunday by the North Carolina
Tar Heels, getting romped by 20 points.
However, when the two teams meet up at the Donald L. Tucker Center on Wednesday
night, the tide will turn back the other direction in favor of the Seminoles.
Carolina Has to Be Careful of Look
It's hard to say
that the team that is in third place in the ACC would really be a sandwich
game, but that's really what the case is right now for North Carolina. The
Heels just knocked off the Maryland Terrapins on Sunday night 87-76 in Chapel
Hill for a huge win, and they have Saturday's clash against the Duke Blue
Devils waiting on tap. This is a nasty road trip down to the Sunshine State, a
place where UNC really has had to scratch and claw for its wins in recent
The good news is
that there has to be a ton of confidence after smacking this team in Chapel
Hill, especially knowing that it was one of the first games for Kendall
Marshall as the starting point guard for the team. He had 16 assists that day
to go with his nine points, and he only turned the ball over three times.
Bigs for Noles Will Be Key
For years and
years, Florida State has had one of the biggest and lankiest teams in the
entire country, and this season is no exception. Sure, the team's defense is
really hurt by Chris Singleton not being on the floor while he is recovering
from his fractured ankle, but there is no denying just how good this team
really is on the defensive side of the court. The Seminoles are surrendering
just 62.3 PPG, and the team is holding foes to just 36.1 percent shooting from
the field, the best such mark in the country.
When you look at
the stats for the Noles and their big guys, you really aren't going to be all
that impressed. Bernard James is averaging 8.1 PPG and 5.6 RPG, Okaro White is
at 6.7 PPG and 3.0 RPG, Xavier Gibson is just at 5.5 PPG and 3.9 RPG, etc.
However, all of these men that are going to be wearing garnet and gold on
Senior Night in Tallahassee have one goal in mind: Revenge.
After all, both
John Henson and Harrison Barnes had double-doubles in that game against Florida
State the first time around, while Tyler Zeller also had a huge night. The
three combined for 49 points and were the main reasons why UNC outrebounded the
Noles 37-27 on the day. Needless to say, Head Coach Leonard Hamilton is going
to make sure that his men don't suffer bad marks like that again.
Seminole Uprising on the NCAA
might be 9-2 ATS in its last 11 games overall, but that win against FSU was the
first in this series for the Tar Heels in three tries against the Noles. The
men in Carolina Blue had failed to cover five in a row
before the 20 point romp at the Dean E. Smith Center.
This is the day
that Florida State gets back on track. For a team that is 12-2 SU and 4-3-2 ATS
on its home floor, FSU is really getting disrespected by the NCAA Basketball odds makers in this
one. There's no reason for the Seminoles to be 1 1/2 point underdogs, and smart NCAA Basketball bettors plan on taking full advantage. Take this to you favorite sportsbook and build your bankrolls just in time for March Madness.
