Stopping the Linsanity
The Knicks have won three of four since
Jeremy Lin suffered a season ending knee injury. That coupled with Amar'e
Stoudemire’s back injury has forced Carmelo Anthony to shoulder more of the
load and the former Syracuse star has been up to the challenge. Anthony is
averaging 27 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in the last four games and is now
averaging 20.6 points per game for the season.
Despite all the injuries, New York has
not only persevered but prospered under the watch of interim head coach Mike
Woodson. Thanks to an added emphasis on defense, the Knicks are allowing just
80.3 points per game and have moved two games in front of Milwaukee for the
eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Last time out
Despite shooting just 39 percent, the
Knicks routed the Cavs 91-75 on Saturday night. J.R. Smith came off the bench
to score 20 points while Anthony added 19 and Tyson Chandler had a
double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. New York cashed as an -11 point
home favorite while the combined 166 points stayed well below the closing total.
Sunday in Houston, the Pacers edged the
Rockets in overtime 104-102. Danny Granger scored 32 points for Indy while Roy
Hibbert added 15 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots. The Pacers also
notched the ATS win as a 3.5-point underdog. The combined 206 combined points
sailed over the total of 193.5.
Pacers playoff run
Indiana (31-21 SU, 24-28 ATS) starts the night in
fifth-place in the EC race. They’re one game in front of Atlanta and two ahead
of the seventh-place Philadelphia 76ers.
Danny Granger has been a key this season
for Indiana. While most players tend to wear down as the season wears on,
Granger has done his best work lately He’s averaging over 25 points per game
over the past three games compared to 18.2 points per game for the year.
The Knicks have won each of their two
visits to Indianapolis thanks to Anthony who has put up 24.9 points in 21
career games against the Pacers.
Indiana is 16-7 SU at home but just
10-13 ATS. The Pacers are also 12-10 to the ‘over’ at the Fieldhouse. New York
has struggled on the road going 9-16 SU and 15-10 ATS. They’ve been a solid
‘under’ play (17-8) away from MSG. NY is also 6-2 to the low side in its past
eight games while Indy is 6-2 to the ‘over” during that same stretch.
The Knicks are 10-2 ATS in their last 12
games overall and the road team has covered in 10 of the last 13 series
In their two previous meetings this
season, New York has coast to double-digit wins and easy ATS victories.
Harvey’s Take: Has there been a tougher team to
handicap than the Knicks? By far they’ve been the streakiest team in the league
and they’re at it again, taking three of four and eight of their last 10.
Tonight my money is on the Knicks with a little sprinkle on the ‘under’.
