The Boston Celtics are one of the top teams in the NBA right now and so it seems only right that they are 6.5 point favorites on the NBA odds board when they face the Kings of Sacramento.
The Boston Celtics (36-11), one of the NBA's best teams in the league, face one of the worst teams in the league, the Sacramento Kings (12-33).
The Celtics are on a high after defeating the Los Angeles Lakers 109-96 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. This was a close game for most of the way but Boston took over in the final quarter. Paul Pierce led the Celtics with 32 points. Ray Allen chipped in with 21 points and Kevin Garnett had 18 points and 13 rebounds. Boston shot 9 of 17 from 3 point range. This was a good win for Boston because they were coming off of one of their worst defeats of the season against the Phoenix Suns.
The Kings have won 2 straight games. The last time that this happened was at the end of October. They also beat the Lakers 100-95 on Friday and handled the New Orleans Hornets, 102-96 at home on Sunday. DeMarcus Cousins led the Kings with a game high 25 points and 12 rebounds. Tyreke Evans added 18 points and 6 boards. This will be a good game. The superior Celtics are catching the Kings at a point where they're playing well.
Kings Defense Has Been Strong
In the last two games, the Kings have held the Lakers to 41.3% shooting from the field and also held the Hornets to 43.2%. Boston on the other hand has been shooting 50.1% from the field for the season and 38.2% from 3 point range. Although Sacramento's defense has been strong as of late, for the season, they've allowed 101.9 points per game.
DeMarcus Cousins Has Been A Force Lately
In the last 2 games, Demarcus Cousins has nearly doubled his point average of 13.5 points per game with an average of 26 points per game. Cousin has also averaged 11 rebounds and shot 22 for 41 from the field. This will be a tough matchup for the Celtics bigmen on the inside. Cousins is very young and is starting to mature as a player.
Tyreke Evans is Mr. Consistency
Evans is an all around player averaging 17.8 points, 5.5 assists, and 4.8 rebounds. He can do a little bit of everything and is only 21 years old. Since his injury, he's been consistent, scoring in double figures in 8 out of his last 9 games and had a 35 point performance against Golden State on January 21st. With the home crowd backing him, he should keep a strong Boston defense on their toes.
Celtics Have Every Piece to Be a Championship Team
At center, Kevin Garnett is having one of his best seasons after a slight decline and a series of injuries. KG is averaging 15.1 points and 9 rebounds per game. He brings a competitive fiery attitude that sparks emotions in the opposing players. Sometimes that can be a negative and sometimes a positive but Garnett is totally focused. Cousins will have a decisive weight advantage while Garnett has the experience and attitude.
Paul Pierce is the scorer that comes up with the big shots when needed. He's also an emotional player. Point guard, Rajon Rondo is young in age but full of intelligence on the court. Rondo is a tough matchup for any point guard. He has several outlets to distribute the ball to. On the season, Rondo is averaging 10.4 points and 12.6 assists per game. Rondo has offensive ability. He averages 51.7% shooting from the field but he's on a team that's filled with offensive firepower. He also has Ray Allen, one of the greatest and most clutch 3 point shooters of all time to pass the ball to at pivotal moments of the game.
Boston is shooting 38.2% from 3 point range for the season and has a point difference of +7.3 points per game. The Kings have a point difference of -4.7 points.
The Celtics are 22-22 ATS and the Kings are 18-26.The favorite is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings in this series. Kings are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games. Celtics are 20-7-1 in their last 28 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of less than .400
Outcome of the Game
The Kings have been playing well as of late and DeMarcus Cousins has stepped up his game. The Celtics had one of their worst games in years versus the Suns but then defeated the two-time defending champs and the although Cousins is a tough matchup, the Celtics have multiple options of their own. Boston is the far superior team. On the road, against a team that's been hot lately, 6.5 points is a lot of points to give but Boston is worthy of laying the points. Take Boston to cover.
