    ATP Paris Discussion

    Some matches that stand out

Ferrer vs. Goffin. Goffin has won 43 of 46 matches, but I don't see him beating Ferrer in a masters 1000 tournament in Paris.

Fognini vs Pouille. No clue. Fognini seems to always show up in big matches, no?

Melzer vs. Tsonga. What has Tsonga been doing for a month? Melzer served very well in his first match and we all know Melzer is the type of guy that you never want to bet against when he's hot. He's always down more than up at this stage, but when he gets hot, he's dangerous.

Take Pouille. He has the confidence with him right now. He beat Johnson and Nieminen in straight sets which is no easy feat. Fognini, nobody knows. He can win this match if he cares, but I think he's in Holliday mode. Being in France, you will atleast get a effort no matter what from Pouille.

Also Melzer looked Motivated vs Garcia Lopez. Remember Melzer is ranked 120 ish right now. He needs points for the Aussie open. Top 100 + wildcards get a crack at it. +1.5 sets @2.55 should be there for the taking

    Wawrinka -3 -115 $115 to win $100

I see this as a no brainer. Wawrinka has been embarrassed the last 2 or 3 matches, and I think he will roll Thiem who has played a lot of tennis lately. Too many errors for Thiem on the way and Wawrinka will go into this match very motivated in my opinion.

    Wawrinka 6-1 6-4

Meltzer is injured though, watch out Oppo of the above, Wawrinka has lacked any edge since the USO and has nothing to play for. Younger guys usually hungrier in this spot IMO

Pride. WHy would you want to lose to thiem twice if your Wawrinka. Think of it like an athlete. That's hunger/motivation right there. We'll see.

6-1, 6-4 doubt that, although Thiem can put in head scratchers, no motivation for Wawa.

Melzer is not injured. Unless he twisted his ankle off the court . He looked pretty awsome vs Garcia-Lopez

Just relaying what I've read that he was carrying some sort of injury. Obviously not serious enough to keep him from playing, but makes him as iffy as anyone else I suppose. Not a great betting match since Tsonga is a coin flip to show or no show. Lots of its at work.

Tsonga has been "resting" for a month because he's afraid of getting injured ahead of the Davis Cup final as Gasquet and Monfils have been. Meanwhile Federer who is much older than all of them has been playing nearly every week lol.

Fognini's odds sound weird but it's Fognini so you never know with him.

    On the other side.
    1) Pouille is a qualifier who mainly plays at the Challenger level in scrub tournaments. He's young, not 21 yet,
has talent but is not established as an ATP level player, ranking 176.
    2) Fognini ranks 20 and has 7 years more experience.
    3) Pouille recent victories can be easily dismissed, aside from showing good form. Johnson ? whatever. Nieminen ?
he's been playing a lot and is old. Karlovic ? bone tired from Basel, his serve was not there yesterday.
    4) Fognini has had rest coming off dissapointment in Spain.. lost to Murray (no shame in that). lost to Kukushkin
and Gulbis (both who were very hot at the time). Stiffer level of competition. Fognini is used to playing vs the elite,
Pouille is used to playing marginal players.
    5) Early round, indoor, don't expect a huge crowd for this match. It's not one of the premier matches.
    6) Time off for Fognini gives him an opportunity to rebound. His girlfriend Pennetta is in Bulgaria so we know
    he won't have weak legs.
    7) discounted odds
    8) Fognini is a solid combination of both speed and power. Pouille has speed, but Fognini will
blast balls past him, confuse him, and beat him easily. Pouille has nothing in his arsenal
that can hurt Fabio. Only if Fabio makes many errors or dfs would this match be in question.

you don't rank 20 in world men's tennis by having those anti-qualities perpetually.

Fognini vs Pouille isn't so much a bet on who will win, as it is a bet on whether Buttpirate gives a flying f*ck.

Fognini throws his racket and then starts screaming.

    What was that all about?

    Pouille wins 7-6 7-6
