I'm setting this up because I have some excessive free time and had a mid-4 figure balanace waiting for a cashout in a mainstream book for some time. I want to keep the money in USD so have the blockchain.info -> coinbase setup. Any other pitfalls I should be aware of before attempting this?

You all realize that bitcoin isn't regulated by any governing body but the people who actually all use the coins for monetary transfers right?

These coins going through the web can easily be stolen just like the last several major bitcoin burglaries in asia and australia.

Not to mention if the actual network bitcoin uses fails or gets destroyed by hackers then hundreds of millions of dollars of bitcoins are

now worthless. To me this whole bitcoin system was invented for illegal activity to get around be tracked by law enforcement and

financial regulation. I just don't see the trust and credibility in this bitcoin thing. Its too sketchy

Which makes it perfect for payments to and from sportsbooks. Those advocating that and those advancing the saving grace of bitcoin are typically going to be two different groups of people.

Bitcoins were created in 2009. The first bitcoin sportsbooks opened in 2011. I think bitcoins, or an improved decentralized ecurrency is here to stay.

There is a strong dichotomy in thoughts on bitcoins here at SBR.

It wasn't created by a criminal or with criminal enterprise in mind.

Part of the reason that drove it's creation was the 'criminal' way the international financial system leaches off people unreasonably.

At it's heart is an open and transparent system to complete the same transactions that currently cost ordinary people trillions of dollars per year for less than 1% of that cost.

Due to being open and transparent it can be regulated more easily than the current system... if govt choose to embrace it.

Egold showed up the banks for the inequity of their system in that it was possible to do this job without skimming off 2 or 3 percent of every dollar involved in international commerce... their cost was 100 times less at 0.02%

Banks had the feds smash that with sledgehammers. It was an embarrassment and they knew with enough time traction would be gained and they would be forced to compete.

The Bitcoin system cannot be smashed with sledge hammers as it is too decentralized. It can be beaten, or badly stunted, by govt through legislation but so far they haven't shown much sign of serious plans to do that.

I think you will find the banks will fight this by trying to get it fully legislated for and pile on enough costs so they can continue to act like the same parasites they have been.

    2 Questions for me:
    1) I am living in China for a year for work, can I still use the US based bitcoin providers?
    2) If I want to transfer Bitcoins to friends - whats the best way? I dont want the transaction to be traceable by book.

Also, I had an issues with my Heritage account, where someone tried to withdraw via Bitcoin even though I never made a deposit before. CS shared the convo with the person posing as me. Was truly a shitty feeling that someone tried to rob me. Heritage didn't process it because I never deposited before and I believe they call people to confirm bitcoin transactions... Are there ways to protect yourself more, because I feel the fact that its anonymous way to transfer funds is a double edge sword.

My cashout experiences with Bitcoin thusfar:

5Dimes: email confirmation, large withdrawal limits, whole process took about a day from request to my BTC wallet. Top notch.

Heritage: phone confirmation, 3k/day limit, ~6 hours from request to wallet. Great except for the limits.

Bookmaker: no confirmation, big limits, ~4 hours. A+.

Nitrogen: no confirmation, lightning speed, no issues with limits yet. Superb.

Jetwin: sends an email confirming the request, which maybe could alert me to a potential fraudulent transaction in time? ~6 hours, no issues with limits yet.

Looselines: live chat confirmation, ~6 hours.

MyBookie: repeated issues, 1k/week limit and $15 fee per request. Yuck.

I'm sure you can. Try making accounts at Circle, Coinbase and Blockchain. If your friends have accounts at these places, it should be relatively easy to send them funds. Not much different than how PayPal operates.
As for your last paragraph... I take it you're not very familiar with using Bitcoin because Heritage (along with other books like 5Dimes, etc) use BTC primarily as a way to fund your account, and not as the primary currency for wagers. Only very few books like NitrogenSports are based on BTC.

SO I made my first deposit. Circle to blockchain to Heritage. I made the initial deposit for 300.00. 297.93 was credited to my Heritage account. I think I lost $2 from Circle to blockchain. I made the transaction in less than 3 minutes from my initial USD to BTC conversion at circle. When I transfer from blockchain to Heritage, is Heritage converting once they receive in their wallet? Or is it at the BTC rate when I send it to Heritage. I'm trying to understand where I lost the 2.07. Also when I issue payouts and thy transfer to Blockchain, are there notifications that' can be sent to me so I exchange to USD asap else I am leaving my self open to BTC price movements.

The bitcoin price is different at each exchange http://bitcoincharts.com/markets/ . When you lost $2 by transferring from Circle to Blockchain, you would have gained $2 if you transferred from Blockchain to Circle.

When you transfer from Blockchain to a sportsbook, you get the price of when the transaction was initiated, not when it was credited by the sportsbook although there may be some exceptions with fiat books. I'm not 100% sure what Heritage does.

The sportsbook will receive the money instantly but may not credit it until some confirmations occur. With the top bitcoin books is between 0 confirmations and 1 confirmation. With fiat books it's between 1 confirmation and 6 confirmations.

The fee is zero when you transfer to a bitcoin book other than the miner's fee. I normally pay between .0001 (approximately 4 cents) and .0005. The fee that a bitcoin transfer to a fiat book is different from book to book. It may be zero but it could be more. Once again I'm not 100% positive with fiat books.

When you transfer from blockchain to a sportsbook, it's best to click "custom" on the left and then the miner's fee box will open. Pay a miner's fee of .0001 (4 cents). This will insure that you can withdraw the money as soon as the game is graded with the bitcoin books. You may want to ask with the fiat books since I'm not sure of their withdrawal requirements.

Yeah so I am using a traditional book and plan on using them going forward as I perceive them as more safe than bitcoin book. Not sure there is much value in bitcoin books but I have to look more.

What about when I transfer from sportsbook to blockchain, can I get a notification? I guess maybe this notification should actually come from the book as I cant get it instantly credited back to blockchain. Also when sportsbook issues a code, if I gave that code to a friend for example or if I used it to deposit at another book. Will that book know where it came from?

Still looking for other options in addition to circle as a way to convert USD to BTC and vice versa. Limit there is only 300.00. I need higher limits, much higher. Any suggestions?

What do you mean? Is it because of you being in China or for another reason because I've been using them perfectly fine to buy BTC and they have some decent limits once you attach and verify a bank and CC account.

Can you withdraw your money from Blockchain to your bank account? Or do you have to go from Blockchain to Coinbase/Circle?

Basically, can you link a checking account directly to Blockchain?

If so, is this safe/alright to do?
