Ladbrokes and Coral Sportsbook agree to merge

Ladbrokes and Coral Sportsbook merge creating UK giant

Ladbrokes Sportsbook (SBR rating A) has merged with Coral (SBR rating B+) in a massive $2.3 billion annual deal. The two sportsbooks began discussions officially last month, though initial chatter began in June. This consolidation makes Ladbrokes Coral the single largest bookmaker based in the United Kingdom.

well it puts a lot a $h!t ton of money behind the outfit, they have always spent money on going after the punter, that could be good, but two of the worst brick and mortar shops ever to set foot inside of, and always crap odds... so good luck to them but not getting a penny from me. lol.

If you place a giant turd on top of another giant turd, what do you get?

The biggest impact of the merger should be on the workforce of the two companies. I predict massive layoffs. Good for stockholders, not so good for employees. Good luck shaunovery

Genrally in takeovers the shop staff are the safest they still need people to run and work in the shops, higher management and head office staff are in danger

Not worried they'll cut wages or replace you with an immigrant or a recent college graduate willing to work for half the salary?

4/5 - that is an excellent price. Well played! How often does your shop have prices comparable to best offshore lines (at least on one of the three football outcomes)? How much would any bettor be able to risk on an average monday night game - like this 4/5 Arsenal punt? Do you think your routine will change at all after the merger (will they change betting limits, introduce player cards or the way lines move)?

We have higher limits also I have to deal with a lot of arbers or runners I call them you only see them once or twice before you know what there upto but then they just go to the shop down the road , betting on shops on the uk is very different to offshore , you could jump on a bus and go to 5 different shops and have the same bet and rarely does the price move espicAlly for premier games

Bet365 sold off its fairly small shop estate to Coral in 2005, well before the impact of FOBTs were felt for shops.

Yes there may be shop divestment in monopoly areas, but providing there is a reasonable close Hills/Fred/Paddy/Independent shop there won't be the regulatory need to. Fred only had to dispose of 25 shops in the north west when he acquired the Tote.

Each company though does carry a number of poorly performing shops (mainly old style small backstreet ones) which would go in any case. This is likely to accelerate this.

Coral advertise that they will take a bet after 9am on Saturday for all horse races shown on Channel 4 from anyone without exception up to a maximum payout of £5000.
