Do they delay soccer matches in Europe due to lightning?

Please say no. It's sad enough it happens here when there is lightning miles away from the event.

Not sure, but they will due to excessive rain, which American football usually does not. So there's that.

There is no lightning in Europe. It either rains, snows, hails or sunny with a mix of clouds.

Lightning no but for water logged pitches where the ball could even hardly move or get stuck in the water puddle.

This thread came up in a search. Watching Bayern - man city in lambeau and announcers said euro soccer almost never deals with this. Is there just not lightning In Europe?

The Euro season in September to May. If they played in the summer they would have dealt with lightning storms.

    Dumb question

Europe lol As if it's a law signed by 55 countries. How about being more specific and using common sense

I doubt it's a thing anywhere but USA to halt a sport event if there is a single strike within 10 miles.

Drives me mad with US motorsport.

European soccer players are known to be tough as nails. A little lightning won't scare those thugs.

They do delay games because of lightning in Denmark. Its the referees decision. This incident 13 years ago probably makes the referee more inclined to delay games.

I thought that was a bit strange too, they were acting like lightning is just never a concern or doesn’t exist around the soccer matches.

With all the matches to get played it’s tough to believe.

    I don’t know the stats.

A year or so ago, there was like a dozen kids killed when lightening struck a soccer field in Africa.

As far i can remember then not a single match in Estonia has not been delayed thanks to lightning ...

However if i remember correctly than last time some game was interrupted by mother nature it was in 2019

... And some years before that there was one encounter probably even more bizarre ...

USA concern about it seems a bit strange too.

I'm sure we all have the same lightning most places and no one else acts like it must stop sport very often.

I think it's no where else anyway. Canada maybe?
