So fast food workers want $15 an hour?

    Really?

I know this is going to offend about 30% of this forum, but fukk that.

Thursday I drive thru Wendy's and order a Double Cheeseburger combo ONLY Lettuce, Pickle and Mustard. I get only Ketchup and Lettuce...where's my fukking pickle? I hate ketchup, but since I already drove off I go ahead and eat the slop.

This morning I go the McDonald's and order a Big Breakfast with Pancakes. When I get my order I always ask for an extra syrup, it's a good thing I did because I didn't even have the first syrup in there. While I am waiting on my syrup I realize that I don't even have the freaking pancakes. Are you serious?

These jobs are for teenagers looking for a little spending money, not for adults trying to support a family. Why in the blue hell would I support giving them $15 an hour when they can't even get a simple order right?

Bring on the robots. Which is exactly what is going to happen if they get their way.

I know some people who went to school for a trade and have been at their job for 10 years that don't make $15 an hour.

How would you like to have worked for McDonalds for say 15 years and make say $12 an hour and then the increase goes into effect and you now make just as much as money the new people that you have to train?

There are conveience store chains where I live that have been using touch screen monitors for taking food orders for years now. Surprised the major fast food chains haven't implemented this into their system yet.

US minimum wage is the root cause of many social problems.

You'd think Americans would take some pride in being among the best paid workers in the developed world. But instead I see thread after thread arguing that $2.20/hr 3rd world level wages is just fine.

It makes me want to bang my head that so many can't see the benefits of a system that would see the lowest levels of society able to consume luxury goods and aspire to not be poor. Almost nobody needs to be truly poor in a rich country like America.

you want to see a boom in this country, shut down wall street.
share corporate profits with the workers who make them possible,
not the wall street pigs who do nothing but steal from the common man.

Heard they have a new machine that spits out 600 prepared burgers per hour, and the add on feature even bags the damn orders....careful what ya wish for fry guys. Be happy that your job already involves air conditioning, a pictured touch screen process and a calculator that tells you how much change to give back out of a $20 for a $15 meal.

I don't agree with the $15, but $10 is reasonable to keep with inflation.

Why automate when they are only working their workers 20 hrs a week minimum wage with no benefits.
Probably why the unemployment rate is down. 2 workers @ 20 hours compared to 1 @ 40 plus benefits.

Might be why the workers are asking for $15, because they are only working 20 hrs.

Ever figure up what your benefits are an hour? Health insurance alone is $4 an hour, depending how many hours
you work and how much you pay a month.

USA has low minimum wages compared to other countries. Ceos and other executives make a disproportionate amount compared to workers. Other countries have a much smaller wage gap and better minimum wage.

    Switzerland has no minimum wage.

They recently put the issue up for a vote.

The people voted against instituting a minimum wage.

Their average wage is higher there than over here WITHOUT a minimum wage.

    Go figure.

Back when I was a kid... I never worked at a fast food place... but I worked at a golf driving range and then a few bowling alleys. I was always a dedicated worker. I always wanted to make sure the customer felt always welcome. I guess I was just born with it? My wage was $4.25 an hour.

As for the fast food industry... the service is lousy. Orders always getting screwed up. Worse now than it's ever been. These new teenagers know nothing about dedication and true service.

The Obama administration only wants a national minimum wage because of taxes. Has nothing to do with inflation or the caring of uneducated or younger workers. If they pay the employee more... the employer must pay a higher tax rate to the government. In all honesty... your mom and pop businesses saved HUGE money on a lesser payroll tax than ever. The main issue now is... mom and pop businesses are dying... and major corporations are in place. Obama wanted this... why??? Because he wanted states to allow a higher minimum wage. More for the State... and more tax money for the Feds. The billion dollar corporations wouldn't be effected by this. The mom and pop businesses would be effected. It's too steep of an increase. This is life in the big leagues now.

They actually have a union in Denmark for McDonalds workers and the cost of living there is significantly higher.

Consumer prices are 50% higher and restaurant prices are 100% higher.

In 1968 the min wage was $1.60. With inflation, today the min wage should be $10.74. 40% of Americans make less than that. plus the 10.74 an hour is a low number. Should be higher. The problem is greed. CEO make 500 to 1000 times more than the avg. worker. Gap between rich, and poor is as high as it was before the great depression. Pay people more, they spend more. The more they spend, the better it is for all. Pay rich people more they sit on the money.

The problem is not the min wage. Its NAFTA, CAFTA, REP's, DEM's, Greed, Bad foreign policy, over extended military, wall street, banks, milton friedman, neoclassical economics, corporate greed, unfettered capitalism, and the fuk the little guy mentality.

Where is that number coming from? Pretty sure 40% of Americans make more than $10.74. If not I will be shocked...please provide a BLS or some other citation.

I managed people from 1994 through 2008 and in all honesty, the majority of the people that I worked with didn't deserve to even make minimum wage and the people that were good workers had no trouble increasing their salaries easily.

I honestly think this country is full of lazy people with no ambition. Our culture has grown into one where everyone wants something for nothing.

Its just a fact, that some people are that way. But i think for the most part. Most people work hard. You will always have people who are lazy. Been that way since we walked upright. Has nothing to do with the min wage.

I guess my point was that most people that made minimum wage only deserved to make that amount so doubling it up from what it was to $15 an hour isn't fair to people that either worked their way up to that number or are far better workers than the rest of the ones who are now making the same amount.

Those guys getting paid big money didn't get to that level by being stupid. If it were that easy, everyone would be doing it. Believe me, I know millionaires that don't do shit, and it does make me jealous, but they didn't get to that level by just being lucky. Risks were involved and sacrifices were made.
