Darrell! Tell me it's a land where people like us are free to live, thrive, prosper and love. A place where the "faces" coexist in complete harmony with the bagheads. Is Las Vegas really this magical place Darrell? Good to see you posting pal.

Thanks for remembering your baghead bro in The Meadows.
    It's great.
    Making friends and all that.
    No fellow bagheads, yet.

Vegas is great. I should have moved here, years ago.

    Sports, lately, less.
I got burned out on sports 2 months ago- serious losing streak.

    Video poker-oh yes!!!!
    It's a culture.
I go in, put $40 in the machine, leave a five dollar bill on the well, I get a shot and a beer.
Play very carefully!!! Every once in a while, I might hit that 4 of a kind and win a hundred bucks.
I'll get 3 free rounds. Bartender makes $15 House sees I play $40 for an hour. I'm feeling good, they're happy, we're all happy.
Every once in a while, a pretty girl will talk to you.
And get this fellas, not every pretty girl in Vegas is a prostitute!!!!

I live in a shitty 1 bedroom apartment for about $500/month
Forced to pay renters insurance at $18/month
    Water/gas/trash $25
    Power bill was $106

The places I wanted to get into were about $600-$700 (Gated in nicer neighborhoods)
Personally, I couldn't get in because I got evicted a couple of months ago
Me and my roommate and his 10 year old daughter were staying a 3 bedroom for $900/month (nice place too)
He turned out to not pay his fair share of the rent, and kept borrowing money from me.
So i went to the landlord one day and gave them half the rent, and told them he needs to start paying his half. Well he didn't pay. So they kept my money and got a judgement from the courthouse. A police officer came to the apartment and gave us a paper that said we had 24 hours.

Some worse than others Bear but any major city is gonna have its share of crime. Obviously worse in some parts but just stay clear of those areas and you should be fine. Been wanting to move their myself and looking into it more lately. Cost of living not that bad compared to other big cities really.

Nothing has happened to me and I'm a drunk target. I get smashed too. I still haven't gotten the discipline to say no to free drinks, and they got a lot of them here.
I have a tendency to avoid violent crime. But, I don't do drugs or roll around with hoodrats.

Rottweilers are fine. Their's a lot of them here.
Lot of pools. Almost every apartment complex has one.

    I work in a restaurant.

If you want to move out here, have a job lined up first and foremost. Can't stress that enough.
Slim pickin's for employment out here.

i live by the hour, as opposed to the day.

In Albuquerque, when I got off of work by 2 30 and didnt have to come back till the next day at 4, I thought I had the rest of the business day to take care of my errands and maybe catch a buzz by 2 a.m. and sleep till i need to wake up and get ready for work.

In Nevada, I have 26 hours to get things done and I have to find 4 hours I gotta get home and sleep or power nap before my next shift.
I like it out here. I'm so glad I moved out here.

Live by the hour- I am drinking beers till 10 am. Then I go to sleep till 3, wake up and make it to work by 4.

Different kind of life I'm still adjusting to. Live by the hour out here.
Love it, life is much more precious to me and I value it so much since I moved out here

Moved out here in 2006, and I agree with everything Darrell has said and how he said it.

When I first got here, I drank and gambled all the time. Now I do both but a lot less and in moderation. Once I got it all out of my system, I slowed down and was really glad I did. If you can make it past the 3-4 year mark and still be in one piece, you're gonna do just fine.

Great energy here. Everyone wants to make it. Very few layabout deadbeat fukks that have been here for 5 generations. Nobody is happy to just be an AC repair guy, they want more out of life. The energy here is contagious.

Panorama? Nice. Lots of drug dealers and ho's there, but it makes for a fun pool on the weekends.

    This is a stupid statement.

First off. Ac repair man is one of the best jobs in the valley. My brother does that in Phoenix and made almost 80k last year, at 24yo.

Op works in a restaurant. Most people I know are slaves of some sort. Working some shitty minimum wage type job and have to rely on the charity of customers to make a living wage.

One girl I know works in the nightlife industry. Makes pretty crazy money, but is essentially a whore who is pressured into sexual acts with management and high rollers.

yep, they're so interested in a better life that they're willing to put some degenerate middle easterners dick in their mouth so they can keep their jobs or get the good tables.

This town reeks of desperation. And really, at its core, is a soulless, sun baked, hellhole of apocalyptic proportions.

the only reason to live here is because it's cheap and the poker games are profitable. Other than that, it blows.

everyone is fake, tries to present themselves as something they're not.

Sick shjt dude. Me and a friend did the panorama thing for 6 months. Easily the best 6 months of my life. It's so easy to pull broads off the strip when you're living there.

There's a real dichotomy in Vegas when it comes to locals. There are the ones that love it and surround themselves with the right people that make it the vibrant city that it is, and then there's the ones that constantly bitch about it, find fault in everything, but have never left (most of them lack the motivation to, which I don't get because you had to have the motivation to move here first). The latter makes blanket statements like "everyone is fake". Most people here are from somewhere else, so if you're not lazy and defeatist you can get to know them and pick out the ones you perceive as real. There are really shitty girls and degenerate guys here, but they're easy to spot, and therefore easy to avoid, so you can easily avoid them -- or you can sit on the sidelines, pout, and state the obvious over and over.

The soulless part I'll give you, but it's not like people are moving here for that, you'd be pretty dense to. Move here for opportunity, to always have something to do (the opposite of happiness is not sadness IMO, it's boredom), and to have the majority of women 25-40 actually single. I have the next 40 years of my life to worry about moving to a less exciting town with more soul and a sense of community. For now, I'm pretty happy here.

It was wrong to say everyone is fake. But I've never met so many low lives, ever. Most people in this town who are trying to be "successful" are absolutely fronting.

there are good people in this town. And all the ones I've met work normal jobs, rarely go to the strip and don't gamble.

c'mon dude. This town reeks of desperation.

these people you speak of that move here to become "successful", whatever the fck that means, in this town, usually wind up working some absurd "promoter" job until they realize they aren't going to make any money.

even the people who are really good looking and personable, thus enabling them to make some money will usually develop a gambling, drinking or drug addiction. sometimes all three.

and ya, there are a bunch of fun things to do here but some busto working as a bar back can't afford many of them.

im glad you're happy here. I'm happier here than I would be elsewhere, just because of the gambling opportunities that allow me to tell "the man" to blow me, cost of living, entertainment, anonymity.

this town has a mega dark side that you don't really acknowledge.

who are all these wildly successful people you've met and what do they do?

It kind of sounds like your talking about the whole nightlife crowd, who are clearly the lamest people in all of Las Vegas. I'd rather go to a dive bar downtown and drink canned PBR with the hipsters then spending one fcking moment around those insufferable douche bags.

Plan on making the move next Sept/Oct any advice? What places to avoid etc I only have about 8k to my name right now or I'd be there today. Looking to sign a 12 month lease and roll with it. If it doesn't work out I can always come back to the east.

Id move in with this kid in panorama. Have yourself a little vag fest. Southwest is good, due to strip proximity. Summerlin is wack, too far away.
