Is It Tough Converting From Sports Betting Pro To Poker Pro??

If I ever get back to Vegas might try it

I still will bet sports but not professionally

It seems more glamorous as these guys have hot girls and cash all the time

The Sports bettors in Vegas are clowns

Poker is serious. Lots of studying, mental discipline, have to be able to handle variance. Often times skill increases with experience.

You will get buried at first. GL

Not true. I am highly profitable in NCAA hoops, barely profitable in MLB, and probably break even or down some in football.

Main difference has been the women - not many sports betting females that are sharks but many poker players. It took me two mornings of waking up tied up with all of my belongings missing to learn this, never happened in the sports betting days.

    no kidding.

bankroll principles apply, but poker is a whole different ball of wax.
Besides, the pit has claimed many a wannabe poker pro. Can't imagine JJ will be able to stay clear of it

i think his personality is more suited toward ring games..... immediate gratification vs. long grinds.....

plus, you can't post 35 posts an hour on SBR while sitting at a tourney table, which kinda rules out 10-12 hr days at the trny grind

    play tight jj, at first..... wait for premiums (aa-qq);
limp to see suited connectors in 1-3 games, try to catch strt/flush to cremate people.....
same thing with small pairs, hoping to flop set to destroy em.....
hit the cash games at the Rio running alongside the wsop..... very juicy, lot of tourists and self-proclaimed pros that just busted out of the dailys, will be on tilt so play conservative, you'll cash up in no time at all!

word of caution: always remember, if you get taken, jumping guy who busted you outside casino can lead to this if you're not careful......

It had taken you a second morning of humiliation to drive lesson home, why didn't you "learn this" after the first morning of humiliation?

he thought it had to be a one-time fluke........

the ego of a hold-em player with some skillz........

ps.... Stevie, just be glad you still have both kidneys!

or, are you missing one after the second chick found out you'd already been fleeced by the first, and thus had nothin' left to be pillaged except body organs?

Coach, one angle you may try is to fart during a big hand. You'll make the villain uncomfortable and unable to think straight. Worst case scenario he folds to get away.

Imagine how pissed off you feel when a team backdoors

Now multiply that exponentially for all of the bad beats you will receive in poker.

If you can handle that, you're good at math, and have extreme patience then you might end up ahead.

Hard to switch - you need to mix both in. Make the sports bets and then sit in poker games while the action is happening. You have to maximize your win rates/hr doing both.

The only plus to it is you can belittle the offender in person, where as the idiot that fouled with half a second left down 15 you will never meet in person

I played high stake poker at Bellagio for years. Whenever I wanted to double my winnings, I played in their sportsbook simultaneously (it's right behind the poker room). I spent all my winnings in their buffet (it's next to the poker room too).

One day I met a penguin at the buffet, and it changed my life forever. We swam together in the Fountains of Bellagio for hours, my gambling income could support all our expenses, and I was the happiest person on Earth.

It's all ended when some middle age bald man came to Vegas to become a poker pro. He destroyed everyone in Bellagio poker room, he also made a killing in the sportsbook, and the penguin (what an ungrateful bustard!), he dumped me because he was into baldies. But I know it was all about the money, big money! Not just a few thousands, but millions!!!

One thing many of you do not realize nor understand is the hidden rule of live cash games

If you win a lot of money and leave table expect repercussions off the premise to get some of that money returned to you

Sharpest guys book bets at the table at bad numbers for the sucker. Easiest marks are wearing a jersey for one of the teams on TV. "Oh, Oakland wins by 2 TDs? Wanna bet?"

A lot of variance though cause the fish usually go bust playing cards and escape before the final whistle.

Properly handling both winning and losing, including bad beats, is essential in both poker and sports. In that respect, they are very similar, not different.
