I don't quite get why Brad Stevens passed on Oregon

They were throwing him a boatload of money to go there and instead he went to the Celtics when they were a very bad team. I'm not even convinced that even if the Celtics lure Hayward away from the Jazz in the offseason that the C's would beat a Top 2 team in the West. Altman was smart and left his hometown Podunk Nebraska Creighton can't make the Sweet Sixteen Jays and got huge $$$ and now has Ducks hoops on the upswing. If not for the Boucher injury, Oregon would probably be favored against Kansas.

To clarify, you don't understand why Stevens opted for an NBA job (a top NBA job at that) over a college job that at the time was less relevant than the one he had at the time. Gotcha.

Everyone is assuming Boston is the heir apparent to Cleveland. But even in 4 years when LeBron is 36, Kyrie will be into his prime and possibly the best player in the league. But Ainge and Stevens have the Celts set up to make a run. Depends on drafts and free agency.

I just didn't get why went to the NBA where the players don't even listen to the coaches. Stevens is a coach, not a figurehead, and his great coaching ability is limited to the players he can play since nobody in the NBA will listen to the clipboard talk.

He could have easily cashed his ticket at Oregon, brought in some McD AAs, and took over the Pac-12. Oregon's good now and Altman's always been a good coach, but he could have basically made them to the Pac-12 what Kentucky is in the SEC.

Not really. Alford is making ucla great again. he is a recruiting stud right now and looks he's making it a hot bed for west coast bball. Even the bandwagon celebrities are coming out. He'd be crazy to go to Indiana right now. plenty of time for that.

If they didnt listen to him they wouldnt be tied for most wins in the East.

Did Bobby Knight recruit another all star after Isaiah Thomas in the 30 or so years he was there? I think Calbert Cheaney and Alan Henderson was the best he got. If Alford is a great coach only with great players he should stay. The genius of Bobby Knight was he could win with anyone. Never had the talent of the Boeheim's or Dean Smith's but still got the job done 3 times.

    Correct

Young coach getting a shot in the NBA-you gotta take it, while you are young so you don't ever ask"what would of happened if..."

Oregon will be fine for a few years, at the very least.
They are really opening up their wallets for better sports.
PAC 12 is starting to get their strength in hoops back

Ever been to Oregon? It's like going back into time. Everyone wears flannel and drives an old pickup truck. Dutch Brothers coffee at every intersection. They don't even let you pump your own gas.

Boston also has NJ's first round pick in 2018, so that could also be a Top 3 pick. Problem is, they haven't hit on much with the first two NJ picks. James Young was a bust, and the Cal kid, so far, is OK and might be a player.

Stevens was in a no-lose situation in Boston. If he failed, every college in the country would want him. Just like when Pitino flopped.

Despite the Celtics being good, I could still see Stevens being tempted by only a couple college jobs, Duke or North Carolina.

Oregon has all the money in the world with Nike being a top 5 donor. They have a huge following in the state. Problem is that it is still Eugene. Nothing is great about Eugene unless you like a college town that's two hours away from Portland. My sister attends school there and I went to Oregon State, and honestly outside of being affiliated with Nike and great facilities, I don't know why recruits don't head south to Cali.

No recruiting trail in the NBA. You can actually have an off-season.
